Collyhurst

Collyhurst is an inner-city area north of the city centre of Manchester, in north west England. It is about 1 mile from the city centre on Rochdale Road and Oldham Road.
Prominent buildings in Collyhurst could be said to include its local police station and large Catholic Church, Saint Patrick's. With the 1970's punk hang out, The Electric Circus (now demolished), where the likes of Joy Division and Buzzcocks was a paticular hot spot for it's local younsters.
Although the area is one of the poorest areas in the city, a large number of sportstars and entertainers originate from the area and include the former Manchester United footballers Brian Kidd and Nobby Stiles, former QPR star Stan Bowles, TV stars Jack Smethurst and Bruce Jones as well as the late comedian Les Dawson.
