Collis Center

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Collis Center at Dartmouth College is the main location of student activities on campus, serving as what would be generically termed the "student union" or "campus center." The building is located close to the center of campus next to one of the major dining facilities, Thayer Dining Hall. The Student Activities Office is located on the 3rd floor. They organize and coordinate many of the College-sponsored, campus-wide events such as Homecoming, Winter Carnival, Green Key Weekend, First-Year Family Weekend, and Sophomore Family Weekend.

The Collis Center is home to the Council on Student Organizations (COSO) and Programming Board. COSO recognizes student organizations and distributes funding to each group. As of 2005, there were 110 student organizations under COSO. Programming Board (PB) organizes one major concert each term. Past artists include Talib Kweli and Maroon 5. PB also selects student and non-student performance groups for the Lone-Pine concert series.

The Collis Center is one of the most used spaces on campus. There are numerous meetings rooms with capacities of as small as 4 people to as large as 300 people. There is a TV lounge, Billiard Hall, FUEL nightclub, patio, and two dining facilities (Lone Pine Tavern and Collis Café). The building, like the entire campus, has wireless Internet access, as well as printing facilities. During the fall, winter, and spring term, the building is in constant use from 8am to 3am with limited availability for room use due to high demand by organizations.
