College of Fine Arts and Communication at East Carolina University

Four Schools make up the College of Fine Arts & Communication at East Carolina University. The College was created on July 1, 2003, but has its roots to the beginning of ECU in 1907. The CFAC is the regional mecca of all things art. The School of Theatre and Dance runs productions by the East Carolina Playhouse (student theatre) and the East Carolina Summer Theatre (professional company).

[edit] The School of Art and Design
The School of Art and Design is the biggest art school in North Carolina and one of the largest in the Southeast. It currently has over 700 undergraduates, 50 graduates and 50 faculty members. The SAD is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design since 1962. It is the only art school in North Carolina and only 220 other art schools has this honor.
This school offers four bachelors to its undergrads:
- Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio
- Bachelor of Arts in Studio
- Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education
- Bachelor of Arts in Art History

The School of Communication offers a BA, BS, MA and a minor programs, with many concentrations.
The Bachelor of Arts degree has three concentrations:
- Communication studies, which examines theories of how humans communicate;
- Public relations, which prepares students for the world of PR; and
- Print journalism, which prepares students to write and report.
The Bachelor of Science degree offers three concentrations as well.
- Broadcast journalism, which prepares students to write and report news through the media of television and radio
- Media production, which prepares students to be creators of audio and video programs
- Media studies, which introduces students to any two of the fields of journalism, media performance, media production and public relations
The School also offers a Master of Arts degree in Communication with an emphasis in Health Communication.
The two minors the School of Communication offer are minors in Communication Studies and Media Studies

The School of Music is one of the premier music schools in the Southeast. The Masters in Music in Music Education was recently applauded by National Association of Schools of Music. The 242 undergraduate and 69 graduate students spend most their time in the A. J. Fletcher Music Center.
A. J. Fletcher Music Center is large building that the School of Music call home. It has two large rehearsal halls and a 260-seat recital hall. In the center, there are electronic piano labs, five organs, more than fifty practice rooms, faculty studios, the Music Library, and the Center for Music Technology. The Music Library's collection contains more than 62,000 books, scores, periodicals, and media materials representative of all types and periods of music.

The School of Theatre and Dance offers a Bachelors of Fine Arts and Bachelors of Arts. In the dramatic performance field, East Carolina offers a BFA in Professional Actor Training or Musical Theatre. In Stage Management the school offers a BFA in Stage Management. In the education field, ECU offers a BFA in Theatre Education or a BFA in Dance Education. People who want to be dance majors, the school offers a BFE in Dancing with concentrations in either Ballet, Jazz, or Contemporary. Design and Production inclined people could choose the degree BFA in Design and Production. That degree offers eight concentrations in: Scenic Design, Scenic Painting, Properties, Scenic Construction, Costume Design, Costume Construction, Lighting Design, and Electrics. Lastly, people who would like a general theatre degree could choose a BA in Thretre Arts.
