College-Ready Math-Science School

The Math and Science School (MASS) is a small public charter high school located at 5156 Whittier Boulevard in East Los Angeles. It opened in 2006. It is one of 7 schools under the Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools [1]. The principal is Dr. Derrick Chau.

The first academic year will include approximately 200 ninth grade students from the surrounding neighborhood and a small staff of teachers to teach core courses and CAHSEE prep classes. The schools permanent location will be on the California State University, Los Angeles [2] campus starting in the 2007-08 academic year. The MASS school has a four year requirement of math and science coursework and will work in collaboration with University faculty to provide all students access to college-level coursework and preparation.
