Colin White (historian)

Colin White (1952-), British naval historian of Horatio Nelson and the Battle of Trafalgar era, organiser of Trafalgar 200. In 2006 appointed as Director of the Royal Naval Museum.

Colin White was awarded an honorary degree as Doctor of Letters in 2004 from the University of Portsmouth in recognition of his Nelson scholarship. He is one of the country's leading naval historians, with many books to his credit including Nelson - the new letters, which has been hailed as one of the most important recent contributions to our understanding of Nelson and, most recently, Nelson the admiral which was officially endorsed by the Royal Navy.

He is a well known speaker on the public lecture circuit and has written and presented documentaries for both television and radio. He is a long standing member of the Southsea Shakespeare Actors, a server at Portsmouth Cathedral and a very keen theatre and cinema goer.
