Colin Irwin is a British music journalist.Irwin was an assistant editor of Melody Maker in the 1970s and 1980s. In his book "In Search of Albion" Irwin makes two embarrassing confessions. First, he was responsible for writing the premature obituary of Dave Swarbrick that appeared in the Daily Telegraph. (see page 67). Secondly, he predicted that Rod Stewart's "Sailing" would be "a big fat miss" (see page 103). The latter faux-pas resulted in him being "sacked from the singles reviews" at Melody Maker. Since then he has reviewed music for The Guardian, Mojo, The Daily Telegraph, The Independent and fRoots. He is a Mercury Music Prize judge. He reviews mainly singer-songwriters, folk rock, celtic and traditional folk albums. He has also presented music programmes on BBC Radio 2.
