The Coldstone game engine is a game creation suite for the Macintosh developed by Beenox Studios and Ambrosia Software. Although the Coldstone game creation software itself only runs on the Mac OS, it is capable of compiling stand-alone games that run on Mac OS 9, Mac OS X, or Windows. The software is designed to provide a full solution for creating role-playing or adventure-style games. The full version of Coldstone shipped with a CD of royalty free artwork for use in one's custom games. A commercial game, titled Pillars of Garendall, was produced in-house at Ambrosia to demonstrate Coldstone's abilities.

The software was unfortunately affected with numerous bugs, and proposed upgrades never came. The software was one of the first programs to run natively on OS X, though due to lack of necessary updates Coldstone and its compiled games were no longer able to be run as of Mac OS X version 10.2.8. This incompatibility was due largely to OS X's changing API set, a criticism of OS X that many Mac developers voiced during its formative years.

Sale of the software was suspended on November 21, 2003 [1] though it was not officially discontinued. The Ambrosia team set development of the software aside in order to focus on more immediate projects and have not yet returned to repair Coldstone's OS incompatibilities.
