Colares (pron. IPA: [ku'laɾɨʃ]) is a Portuguese freguesia belonging to the Municipality of Sintra, with an area of 33,07 km² and 7 472 inhabitants (2001). Density: 226,0 inhab/km². The patron saint is Nossa Senhora da Assunção. It is located southwest of the Municipality of Sintra, in the atlantic coast.
It was the Headquarters of an old Municipality between 1255 & 1855, the Municipality was made up of the Colares Municipality alone and, in 1801, it had 1,930 inhabitants, and in 1849, 3,341 inhabitants.
