It was designated the Cork School of Culture during Cork's tenure of the title of the European Capital of Culture in 2005.
Many well-known Irish names have attended the school, such as Mícheál Martin, the current Irish Minister for Health, and Dan Boyle, another member of the Dáil (the Irish Parliament).
