Coláiste Chiaráin was opened in 1980 to provide second level education to the local area of Leixlip and Celbridge, in Ireland. It has nearly 600 students "FAR ENDER SCUM" and about 50 staff including office staff, teachers and two caretakers. It has received many science and sporting awards and boasts a big fully equipped sports hall. Coláiste Chiaráin, is known locally as "Colaiste" and its motto is "Tús Feasa Fiafraí" which means (in Gaelic) "Enquiry is the beginning of knowledge".

[edit] Location
Situated roughly northwest of Leixlip Town (farend),(a farender is usually a small scumy shit stain on this glorious place leixlip) up Confey , it was built to educate the scumy fareneders and rapidly expanding population of the Dublin Metropolitan Area i.e. people who associate with farenders , to which Leixlip although strictly in County Kildare is part of. This rapid growth and need for education has since slowed, leading to Colaiste Chiarain no longer replacing retired teaching staff. In the short to medium term however, the education system is expected to grow to accommodate more students, as Ireland is experiencing unprecedented immigration and is one of the fastest growing populations in Europe.
Coláiste Chiaráin also adjoins a local Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) with which it shares pitch facilities. In total the school has 1 GAA Pitch, 1 Soccer Pitch, 2 Tennis Courts and 2 Basketball Courts.
[edit] Structure and funding
Coláiste Chiaráin is a community school, which means its Board of Management make decisions on funding matters etc. The Secretary to the Board of Management is usually (not always) filled by the Principal of the school. Coláiste Chiaráin is funded by donations of its students' parents and funding by the Irish Government through its Department of Education. Coláiste Chiaráin has Six year groups at any one time, but this varies as some students do not take the optional 4th Year (also known as Transition Year). Each Year has two Year Heads and each class has a 'Class Tutor'. Classes are categorised according to year, 3A4 indicates the class is the fourth class in third year, as 6A2 means it is second class in the sixth year.
[edit] Religious association
'Coláiste' is also dedicated to 'Christian Ideals' as it was jointly set up by Presentation Sisters (A Roman Catholic Order) and the local people of Leixlip. It is located close to a Roman Catholic Church known as St. Marys. Although the school is Christian, all denominations are accepted equally. It no longer teaches religion in the Roman Catholic way, but teaches about all the World's Main faiths including Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism. The school aims to be tolerant of all and caters for the modern immigrants and their prospective beliefs and faiths. Unusually, unlike other local schools, it does not take traditional Roman Catholic 'holy days' as holidays, a common practice in Irish state-funded schools.
Subjects on offer at the school include, Mathematics, Irish (Gaeilge), English, German, French, Geography, History, Religion, Metalwork, Technology, Art, Technical Graphics, Business Studies, Accounting, C.S.P.E (Civic-Social-Political-Education), Physical Education amongst others.
