Coimbatore District

Coimbatore District is one of the most affluent and industrially advanced districts of Tamil Nadu. The headquarters of the district is Coimbatore city, the second largest city in Tamil Nadu approximately 497km from Chennai and 330km from Bangalore.
It had a population of 4,271,856 as of 2001. Sainik School and Amaravathi Dam, which created Amaravathi Reservoir, are located at Amaravathinagar in Coimbatore District.
The Parambikulam River, one of four tributaries of the Chalakkudi River,[1] originates in this district.
