[edit] Asking Info

Hey there.

Someone gimme a little help here. I am a big fan of BSSM and I wanted to know something.

Lesse...Codename wa Sailor V was defintely created before Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon (the manga) right? And, BSSM was only created because the producer people (TV Asahi) saw Codename wa Sailor V, were inspired, and decided to expand the series.

Upon being encouraged to expand the series, Naoko Takeuchi created Sailor Moon (the character) and the series.

...

Which means that Sailor Moon was never meant to exist (you can see this from the slow progress in early designs and sketches from Takeuchi). More info: http://mangastyle.net/manga_intro.htm

Which means that Codename wa Sailor V had its own individual, distinct, storyline that was never shown because it had to get (awkwardly) melded with BSSM. The point is, there's a lost storyline. Does anybody agree with this? I don't think this should be put into the article, but does anybody have any more info?

No, I do not agree. You have to be able to SOURCE and CITE your info. We cannot speculate. Unless you have a definite source for this, I wouldn't add it to the article. While it is true it preceded Sailor Moon, and Takeuchi felt that she could create Sailor Moon as well, Sailor Moon being, thus a spin-off, Takeuchi also expressed interest after both series had ended in a Codename wa Sailor V anime. (this can be sourced from Princes Back to Work Punch, Punch 1, found on Alex Glover's site). So unless you have an article, and sentiment from someone exactly to this fact it cannot be added. --Hitsuji Kinno 16:07, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

There is a lost storyline but it's not BSSM's fault exactly. It has to do with the magazine that ran Sailor V ending the manga suddenly. I think it shut down. Which is why there are issues of Sailor V that came out much later and also why a planned OVA for the manga where they would go in dept about Minako's story and probably a better explanation for Daburite's connection to the Dark Kingdom, but without the company it fell true.

I read that Naoko admitted to have more planned for Minako but the cancelation of the manga gave her little choice.

Please sign your posts. This is also false. She ended the manga very smoothly and after Sailor Moon. It was not abrupt as you imply. The "lost" storyline would have to be, again, sourced. It's a misreading of Shinzoubon Volume 3 Punch notes:

Left panel 4: -But the position of main character was snatched away by Sailor Moon. Run-Run, the magazine she was serialized in, went belly-up. The OVA they planned to put out never came out. She met a harsh fate. It's enough to make one sick. [Minako]: Where did Run-Run go? When is my video coming out? [Pig]: Umm... [Bunny]: It's not my fault! http://www.kurozuki.com/takeuchi/sailormoon/volume03.html--Hitsuji Kinno 14:56, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pronunciation

Codename wa Sailor V (kō-DAY-naw-MAY waw SAY-lər VEE) --PJ Pete

Where are you getting that? They're mostly English words; I'm pretty sure it would go "kōdo nēmu wa sēɺā bui," just as the katakana currently reads. --Masamage 02:03, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ISBN numbers

I'm adding them in from the original manga, then the shinzoubon. It'll be useful later. --Hitsuji Kinno 16:07, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cutting info about comparisons

The bit about comparing to Usagi Tsukino is being cut by me since that's sonmething that should go on her profile, and not here as per the wikipedia SM project rules. --Hitsuji Kinno 16:27, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure I agree. I saw it as a comparison of protagonists--of main characters, stars of the show. So comparing the way Sailor V and Sailor Moon are similar as centers-of-the-storyline is totally relevant for either main series article. (Better here than on the Sailor Moon page just 'cause that's so darned long.) --Masamage 00:15, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
I agree with Masamage, so I puting it again. Kazu-kun 01:38, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Even so, it's partially inaccurate. The reason Sailor Moon and Sailor V are so alike, down to some of the powers they use is because Venus was often associated with the moon, as were many female dieties in Greek and Roman Mythology. Venus was said to go through cycles in mythology which irectly coincided with the moon. The association with the moon can be seen in Crescent Beam, etc. It's *possible* that it was done because the protagonists are to the kind of character that Takeuchi tends to like to create for her lead characters, such as Chieri, but the similarities even showed up scarily in the anime down to them echoing each other, which makes me think that since this is true that it was a mythological issue, since much of the mythology that the manga missed often showed up in the anime. If you need mythological sources and backing for this, I can pull up some to verify it. Including Bullfinch's mythology. So I think it has MORE to do with mythology than it has to do with one being based on the other. Note also that Takeuchi directly stated Minako as very fickle which is why she drew one image with Asters in it, the flower language for fickle, in one of her liner notes. --Hitsuji Kinno 15:05, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Images

We need the One image they have of her for the anime (they reuse it over and over!) and one from PGSM.... For the latter i was thinking of the shot where she's fighting Tuxideo Kamen and She faces the camera with the crescent held in front of her bow..—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lego3400 (talkcontribs).

This isn't about the character Sailor V, though, it's about the manga series. There would need to be a good reason to bring those in. --Masamage 08:07, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

We have alot of info on her as a charcter though!Lego3400: The Sage of Time 23:50, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

I count...three sentences worth.
Besides, the article is called Codename wa Sailor V, not just Sailor V. The things you're talking about happen in Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon and Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, which are entirely different series. To use that many pictures of the same character here, we would have to have a Fair Use rationale, which would require some kind of comparison to be happening--but since all three versions look exactly the same, and the other two have no particular relation to this manga series, there is no comparison to make. So I don't think copyright law would allow it. --Masamage 00:06, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
I was thinking... Instead of reusing the manga image for Minako's article, could we perhaps use a pic from PGSM instead? Or should it be anime? -SaturnYoshi THE VOICES 00:23, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
I don't think I have a preference. :)
You know, I've just realized that a composite image of all three "versions" might be both acceptable and really, really cool. --Masamage 00:32, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Actually that's a good idea!!! The only "good" images I can find from PGSM are magazine promos. If I can cover up the background with other pics, it could work. -SaturnYoshi THE VOICES 00:42, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Did some digging and found this site...looks pretty good to me, what do you think? --Masamage 00:54, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Three images I found are: this one, this one and this one. -SaturnYoshi THE VOICES 01:01, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Cools. Further resources: here's another good anime shot, and here's an excellet PGSM shot. --Masamage 01:05, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

On my end, the first one is really small, and I'm getting a "Forbidden" message on the second. -SaturnYoshi THE VOICES 01:08, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Alright I was able to bring up the second. I can also remove the time stamp. -SaturnYoshi THE VOICES 01:12, 12 November 2006 (UTC)

Oops. ^^; Sorry about the smallness, but I liked your anime shot better anyway, so I found a crisper version. (I typed 'crispier'...don't know what that would mean.
So, what I'm imagining is a three-way split, with a top-left section, a top-right section, and a bottom-middle section. It seems like these images would fit into that extremely well:
Left, Right, Middle. --Masamage 01:29, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
I went with a different anime image and this is what I came up with. -SaturnYoshi THE VOICES 01:45, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
