Cobra-La

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cobra-La is a fictional organization from the military-themed toyline and series G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, and borrows many themes from the story At the Mountains of Madness by H.P. Lovecraft. Cobra-La was originally meant as a working name, but the final name chosen was disapproved by Hasbro, and so it remained Cobra-La. The name may also be a pun on Shangri-La. Cobra-La is presented as an ancient race of technologically advanced, bio-engineered serpent-worshipping Cobra leaders.

[edit] History

Little is known of this ancient race other than the fact that they have developed a symbiotic relationship with all of nature, particularly massive mutant insectoids and serpents, from which they are descended. As to their headquarters, they formed a home in a secret valley deep in the Himalayas that goes unfound until the events of this movie.

Cobra Commander, formerly seen as the head of the serpent-worshipping, diabolical, world-dominating Cobra terrorist group, is seen as a lackey of the Cobra-La sent to conquer the Earth. After failing time after time in accomplishing his goal, the Cobra-La (specifically Golobulus) set into motion a plan to conquer the World and make it their own. Golobulus implants information in one of Cobra's top scientists, Dr. Mindbender, on how to create a serpent lord. After creating the serpent overlord Serpentor, Cobra-La guards capture Cobra Commander and Serpentor and take them to their hidden headquarters to try Cobra Commander for his failure and emplace Serpentor as a leader of the serpent world to come. Following his capture, Cobra Commander becomes a test subject for the spores to be spread around the Earth to mutate all of humanity into snake beasts. Following a large-scale battle between the forces of G.I. Joe versus Cobra and Cobra-La forces, Cobra-La is decimated and their plan eventually foiled.

[edit] Cobra-La Hierarchy

Cobra-La is composed of a central serpent "priest" called Golobulus. Nemesis Enforcer carries out the will of Golobulus and is a fearsome warrior. Beyond him are the Royal Guards that have the sole task of protecting Golobulus. The last new character, Pythona, is Golobulus' personal messenger and assassin. She is rarely seen but known to be very deadly. Serpentor's role in the hierarchy is not entirely known, but speculated that he would be the figurehead emperor of the world with Golobulus as the true leader.
