COBS Bread

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

COBS Bread is a Canadian bakery chain founded in November 2003 in Vancouver, BC. Established by a group of bakers with the help of the Australian company Bakers Delight, COBS now has locations in British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario.

COBS purports to be an employee focussed company and offers its bakers various training programs and advancement apprenticeship programs. In addition, individual locations have been known to donate bread to homeless shelters and raise money for various charitable organizations [1].

Cobs stores bake fresh every morning. They bake all their products from scratch and continue to bake throughout the day. There is no day old bread at Cobs, because every night charities come and pick up any bread that hasn't been sold that day.

Their products range from sweet (for examples cinnamon buns and teatimes) to traditional loaves of white, whole wheat and multi grain.

COBS Bread says about its name "A COB loaf is one of our most popular crusty breads so why not immortalise the name?"[2] Bakers Delight originally wanted to call their stores the same name in Canada but due to legal reasons could not. So instead they used the name COB(S), which stands for Company Owned Bakeries in Australia.
