Coastal Sound Music Academy, (often abbreviated as CSMA or simply called Coastal Sound), is a world-renowned choral organization based in Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. It offers training programs and performance choirs for children and adults.

At the heart of the organization are the three performing choirs: the Children's Concert Choir, the Chamber Choir and the Adult Choir. The Children's Choir and the Chamber Choir also tour extensively, and between them have travelled to places such as Alaska; England; Phoenix, Arizona; Frankfurt, Germany; Austria; Hungary; the Czech Republic; Newfoundland and Labrador and, most recently, Cuba.

[edit] History

The organization began in the early 1980's as a single District honour choir led by Donna Otto. This eventually transformed into the Children's Concert Choir.

As the organisation began to expand, creating more levels and absorbing more singers, tension between the school district and the organisation then known as the Coquitlam District Chorus Society arose because singers considered the extra-curricular choir to be superior to its school-run counterparts.

Gradually the organisation grew to comprise 8 levels and over 200 members from an area larger than the Coquitlam district. It then became the Coastal Sound Music Academy, which has continued to grow. It now consists of 11 choirs.

[edit] Merchandise

In an effort to raise money to cover the running costs the organisation encurs, CSMA sells various items with the CSMA logo.

CSMA has released a CD entitled Sing Me a Song as a compilation of songs by the Children's Concert Choir and the Chamber Choir.
