[edit] California State Assembly

Hi! I noticed that you've started List of Members of California State Assemblymen. The list is already at California State Assembly though. You might want to check to make sure your efforts aren't duplicated. -- Jonel | Speak 04:59, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Yes, I just noticed what I did. But I do like the job I did on my page better than the one that is active right now :-). Do you think we should/could replace the existing one with what I have? If so, how would you go about doing that?
Thanks
Cmdrbond 05:07, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Yours is definitely much nicer to look at. My recommendation is to merge your list into the California State Assembly page - basically replace the list on that page with yours. One thing to watch out for is that a lot of the links to individual members actually point to other people, as the names are common. Then, redirect the List of Members of California State Assemblymen to California State Assembly. If you need help with this, let me know and I can assist you. -- Jonel | Speak 05:10, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the prompt reply, I merged the 2 pages together but after clicking edit on one section, it seems to have messed up the section right after it. How do I fix that? the colours seem to be stretched. Also, how do I do that link manipulation you were talking about? The first person, Patty Berg, is also a golfer and the golfer's website is showing instead of the assemblywoman's
Cmdrbond 05:21, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I've found out what happened - your table was closed with |-) instead of |} - when a table isn't closed it tends to do very screwy things to the whole article (I've done that myself more times than I'd like to count). The link manipulation by using what's called the "pipe trick" after the piece of punctuation used - the "|" symbol. Inside a wikilink, the portion in front of the pipe is where the link actually goes while the portion after it is what is displayed. Thus, if I put Patty Berg (politician)|Patty Berg in brackets instead of apostrophes, it would do this: Patty Berg. I've done this for all of the assemblymen and assemblywomen that needed it. You can take a look at the syntax to see it in action. Hope this helps! -- Jonel | Speak 05:29, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Thanks, now the page looks good. So should I delete the original article that got me into this trouble and if so, how do I go about doing that?
Cmdrbond 05:40, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
I've already gone ahead and made it a redirect. Only admins (that is, not me) can actually delete a page, but deletion usually isn't necessarily. Especially when there is an article that has the information that someone might be looking for. If you ever need to make a redirect, clear everything on the page and type in #REDIRECT: [[target]] where "target" is the name of the page the redirect points to.
Let me know if you have any other questions or problems. Happy editing! -- Jonel | Speak 05:46, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Just a little help

I am looking at the articles you are posting. Just a tip. You should always wikilink dates. So if it says "(April 23, 1855 - May 8, 1856)", "April 23", "1855", "May 8" and "1856" should all be wikilinked. Just a tip. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 07:23, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

And and, {{California-politician-stub}} is the stub tag to use for California politicians. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 07:25, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
Good job! Looks like you are catching on. :) Only other thing is that we have a page for Mayor of Los Angeles, California and for all of the Congresses, so you can link those if you'd like. Or one of us can do it after you've left the article. :) Either way works. --Woohookitty(cat scratches) 07:44, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image Tagging Image:Frederick F. Houser.gif

Warning sign
This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Frederick F. Houser.gif. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.Rossrs 11:59, 15 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I tend to agree that a fair use claim can be made for this image. I wasn't specifically targetting this image - it was on a list of untagged images that I have been gradually working through. I've added a "Politicalposter" tag to the image page, and I've also added a fair use rationale which I think is sufficient. regards Rossrs 09:12, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:Citybird.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:Citybird.gif. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. --OrphanBot 02:53, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Category:California politicians

Do you think creation of a Category:Los Angeles politicians as a subset of the California politicians category would be a good idea? User:Zoe|(talk) 19:13, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

I don't usually create Categories, so I'm not very familiar with the process, myself. User:Zoe|(talk) 19:19, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

Cool, thanks for enlightening me.  :) User:Zoe|(talk) 19:32, 25 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Biographical articles and categories

Hello. I noticed you created a couple of California politician stubs (Victor V. Veysey, William P. Baker) and added them to a category. If the title of an article is a person's name, you should use a sort key when putting them in a category, so that people in the category are listed by last name. Example:

[[Category:U.S. Representatives from California|Baker, William P.]]

This will sort Mr. Baker in the "B" section of the category rather than the "W" section. (Note that the category I used as an example has been moved to Category:Members of the United States House of Representatives from California. I'm in the process of changing all the other categories also.)
Feb. 21, '06 [01:53] <freakofnurxture|talk>

I've moved the Versey article to Victor Veysey. Middle initials are generally not supposed to be used for biographical article names unless needed for disambiguation. John Broughton 14:40, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Historical Charts of California State Legislators

Hi Cmdrbond, I agree with your idea although I don't think "California State Legislature Delegations" works since I've always understood delegations to be a group of officials representing a portion to the whole. "California State Legislature Delegations from Orange County" would work, for example. What do you think of Members of the California State Legislature or List of members of the California State Legislature? OCNative 03:06, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
