In 1963 Stuart Davidson opened Clyde's of Georgetown. Georgetown University student John Laytham, a busboy at Clyde's, became Davidson's partner. In 1970 Davidson and Laytham purchased the Old Ebbitt Grill, which originally opened in 1856. The current Old Ebbitt Grill, however, is located in a different building because the original structure was torn down.
