The following are amusement park rides and attractions that have been closed. Most were closed down years ago, with no known plans to reopen them.

- The original brewery was demolished and Gwazi was built in its place

- Le Mans Raceway: Closed July 5, 2006, in order to make room for the construction of a new roller coaster.

- Black Widow was removed in 1989.
- Carolina Sternwheeler was removed in 2003.
- Old Jalopies was removed in 1987.
- Whirling Dervish was removed in 2001.
- White Lightnin' was removed in 1988 and sold to Gold Reef City in Johannesburg, South Africa.
- Frenzopd was removed in 2005

- Stealth: Relocated to Paramount's Carowinds in 2003

- Apple Turnover was removed for the original Hurricane Reef expansion in 1992.
- Diamond Falls was closed due to roughness in 2002; demolished in 2005 and will be replaced by the Italian Job Stunt Coaster in 2006.
- Freefallin' and a kids area in Waterworks were removed at the start of the 2004 season to make room for the Italian Job Stunt Coaster.
- King Kobra
- Lake Charles, which hosted shows in the early days of Kings Dominion, was partially filled in during the early 1990s to make room for Kings Dominion's water park. As of the 2005 season, part of the lake still remained.
- Lion Country Safari was removed in the early 1990s; the area that it took up was rethemed to Congo and (as of 2005) is now home to several roller coasters.
- Time Shaft / Haunted River / Smurf Mountain: removed to make room for the Volcano roller coaster
- Mount Kilimanjaro was removed in the early 1990s and replaced by Volcano and Flight of Fear in the later 1990s. [1]

- Screamin' Demon: Moved to Camden Park in West Virginia in 1988. It closed in 2001.
- The Bat: removed after four seasons due to technical problems
- King Cobra: closed after the 2001 season due to expensive maintenance King Cobra was dismanted at the start of the 2002 season.

- Amusement park at Walled Lake, Oakland County, Michigan. Opened 1919, closed 1968, now demolished.

- HotRock Raceway was closed in 2002 due to maintenance difficulties
- Wonder Mountain Walkway was partially closed to make room for mechanical equipment for the Thunder Run roller coaster, and the remainder of it was closed in late 1990s for safety reasons
- Zumba Flume: removed to make room for Top Gun
- Smurf Village: Closed to be replaced for another attraction in the early 1990s
