Closed in
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Being closed in is when someone stops making emotional attachments to others. It is a not uncommon and very scary mental state that people can enter between the time they are born and the end of puberty. It is often caused by an adult they trust becoming untrustworthy. Children and teens who are closed in often do not distinguish between telling lies and telling the truth, and they often will either be quiet or speak without thought. Someone who is closed in often, but not always, wants to make emotional connections but for some reason cannot. You can observe a student who is closed in at a school with relative ease. You need only watch the kids who watch others but do not join a conversation. They do not approach close enough to be considered part of the group.
