Clive Coates is a Master of Wine, former publisher of The Vine Magazine and author of several highly respected wine related books.

His most notable achievement, the book Côte d'Or, a celebration of the great wines of Burgundy ISBN 0520212517, surveys most of the wine producing villages of Burgundy, France. It includes technical information about the vineyards of the Côte-d'Or, details about wine making techniques employed by hundreds of different producers and ratings of thousands of wines.

Clive Coates retired early in 2005 due to poor health. He lives in Saint-Bonnet-de-Vieille-Vigne, France. He plans to spend the initial part of his retirement revising Côte d'Or.
