Clifton Hillegass

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clifton K. Hillegass (1918-2001), born in Rising City, Nebraska was publisher and founder of Cliffs Notes. These are literary study guides in their familiar black and yellow covers that assist college and high school students in their literature course work. There are currently about 300 titles available in 7,000 retail outlets. The choice of black and gold for the covers of the Cliffs Notes, as well as the company's Acacia Tree logo, was influenced by Hillegass' membership in the Acacia Fraternity.
