Clem McSpadden

Clem Rogers McSpadden (born November 9, 1925), was an American Democrat politician and a Representative to Congress from Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional District from 1973 to 1975.
McSpadden was born on a ranch near the small town of Bushyhead in Rogers County, Oklahoma. He attended public schools at nearby Oologah. After completing his college education, he served in the United States Navy during World War II 1944-1946. He was first elected to public office in November, 1954 when he was elected to the Oklahoma State Senate. He was re-elected several times and eventually was chosen to lead that body for two sessions as President Pro Tempore. He was elected to the Ninety-third Congress in November, 1972, and served one term (January 3, 1973 to January 3, 1975), but chose to run for Governor of Oklahoma in 1974, and declined to seek re-election. He was an unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic nomination for Governor of Oklahoma (he lost to David L. Boren). Presently, he is retired from public life and is a resident of Chelsea, Oklahoma.
