Clea (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clea are a British music girl group whose members met on the television show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002. Chloe Staines, Lynsey Brown, Emma Beard, and Aimée Kearsley, decided to form a band after they were voted off the series. The band name was formed from the first letters of their first names. They initially had a management contract and record deal with Warner offshoot 1967 Records and released their first single, Download It, in 2003—it entered the charts at number 21 and the band spent the remainder of the year playing small concerts in the United Kingdom.

In February 2004, the band released their second single, Stuck In The Middle which reached number 23 in the UK charts. They continued playing, including appearances at Soccer 6 in Liverpool and Reading. In May, Chloe Staines left the band, for reasons which are unclear.

Clea's album, Identity Crisis was released in Russia, Eastern Europe and in certain countries in Asia. In these regions, the band had seen some moderate interest; however, due to a lack of success, they were dropped from 1967 Records in late 2004. Clea are now managed by Upside Management and are releasing music independently.

In September 2005, Clea collaborated with production group Da Playaz to release a single, named We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off, a dance remake of the Narada Michael Walden song made famous by Jermaine Stewart. This single reached number 35 on the UK charts. Lucky Like That is the bands fourth single and was released in June 2006. The single placed at number 55 on the UK Charts. Trinity, Clea's second album (but first UK album) was released on July 3 on Upside Records, and charted at #258.

In July 2006, Clea released We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off in Hong Kong, under the label 'Ludavibe'. The song had a lot of airplay, peaking at #1 on the week of July 23 on the RTHK 2 Radio Chart. It is yet to make an appearance on any other international radio charts. The album, Trinity, was released with a different packaging and a bonus CD including the videos for We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off and Lucky Like That, as well as 4 remixes of each song.

In November 2006, the group embraced the world of podcasting, with the release of 'The Lie' on the Podsafe Music Network. Another song, appropriately titled 'Download It' will follow shortly. Lynsey Brown left the band during this month and will apparently be replaced with someone.
