Good work
Hi Classicfilms! Good work on the Beowulf topic. I really appreciate to see someone pull the sleeves up and do some good work. By the way, I'd love to see the Grendel article worked out in the same way as Grendel's mother. Another thing I am curious about is the identity of Grendel. To a Scandinavian he is a troll, nothing more nothing less, but you removed it and I understand that you had a reason for it. I would love to see you present the scholarly point of view, as you have for Grendel's mother. Cheers,--Wiglaf 20:40, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
- Hi again. I see that you are doing the same good work with Grendel. There is only one problem with the argumentation as I see it. You wrote:
- It also supports the ideas of noted Beowulf scholar F. Klaeber and others who have connected the image of Grendel with that of a troll. Nothing in the original language of the poem translates as troll, but the term was introduced because of certain folktales of the time which contained such an image. While Beowulf is believed to have circulated in the Oral tradition, it is unknown which tales (if any) influenced the poet.
- The problem here is that the article claims that he is called ettin and ent, i.e. Jotun. This is actually a statement that he is a troll, since troll and ettin were the same concept in Norse mythology. Snorri Sturluson for instance uses the name troll women about female jotuns in the nafnaþulur.--Wiglaf 21:22, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
- Hi Wiglaf,
Thanks for your feedback. Perhaps the term has many meanings. In Klaeber (1950), "Eoten" (another version of "ettin") is translated as "giant", leaving the image ambiguous -- if you want to stick troll back in go ahead -- I just think the point should be made that we really don't know what Grendel was and that there is debate on the topic ClassicFilms.
- I won't stick troll back into it, if there is any serious dispute in the matter. We all have our opinions, but Wikipedia is not the place to express them. It is where we in good faith add what we believe to be facts. However, I'd prefer the article not to be dismissive of the troll theory since it has good foundation :).--Wiglaf 21:39, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
- PS. You can check out the troll article here on Wikipedia. It is quite good at the moment, and you can see how the meaning has varied during time and space.--Wiglaf 21:44, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
Hi Wiglaf,
- Fair enough as objectivity is always the goal-- I went back to the article and tweaked it a bit more trying to balance the arguments -- in a context that indicates that there are still a lot of unanswered ambiguities.
By the way, the Troll article is great!! Thanks again for the feedback, it was helpful -- ClassicFilms
Your work on the Michael Burns, Ph.D. article
Hello, Classicfilms, thank you for your attention to the article I initiated on Michael Burns. He was one of my favorite actors when I was a child, and I always wanted to know "whatever became of ... him", so I thought I would enter the information that I had. Thank you for refining and editing it to a good high standard. Cordially, David Boisclair drboisclair 19:14, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

Placement of stub tags
In your recent edit of The Secret of Isis you placed the stub tag after the categories. My understanding of Wikistyle is that the stub tag goes before the categories, but after all other text. I've seen a few people doing this of late and I'm curious if the style has been changed. Cheers. 23skidoo 05:43, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing this out. I had noticed a number of pages where the stub followed which automatically allowed a space between the stub and the final sentence of the article (a few stubs I had placed as well had been moved) so I assumed there had been a change in the style. Feel free to move it back. - ClassicFilms
I have added an article for deletion tag to Midnight Special. It seems to be nonnotable. If you have comments, feel free to represent the article as its creator on the articles for deletion page. Leppy 02:44, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Superman Returns
I had to remove the production information you added because it contained redundant information. The distributor, director, etc is already listed in the infobox and the introductory paragraph. All those secondary production companies are not significant enough to require noting. If you wish to add something, that deals with production, that you believe is significant then add it to the infobox to the right of the page; that is where it belongs. Thanks. Fair enough - thanks for letting me know. -- Classicfilms

Alumnae of women's colleges
Hi there! I noticed you've added a few MHC alumnae to the new "Alumnae of women's colleges" category, so before you put any more work in, would you mind reading my comment at Talk:List of Mount Holyoke College people? Thanks! Beginning 05:26, 15 April 2006 (UTC)
Hi Beginning, Sure, I would be happy to. Thanks for writing. -- Classicfilms
---
Hi, I'm writing a paper on Wikipedia's entry of Mount Holyoke College and since you've done most of the editing of its entries, I would really appreciate it if you could please note here whether you're in any way affiliated with the college. Thank you in advance. 1:39, 5 May 2006
Yes, I graduated from Mount Holyoke. -- Classicfilms 5 May 2006

Saeed Jaffrey
Hi!!
I believe 'The Jewel in the Crown' was a TV series and not a film. The filmography section on Saeed Jaffrey's page has only films, if you can let me know, if it was film too, i would be really grateful, if it is not a film, then i feel that a new filmography section dedicated to just the work on television will be more appropriate.
Thanks Neon 06:20, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi Neon,
The Jewel in the Crown was an important television mini-series which is why I added it. It is not unusual for filmographies to include programs that were shown on television if they were popular at the time of release. If, however, you would prefer to make a new section for television, that is fine as well.
Either way, The Jewel in the Crown should be included as a credit listing on the Saeed Jaffrey page, since it is a substantial credit. Classicfilms 2 May 2006
- Ok, will try making a separate section asap. Thanks. Neon 10:47, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
Good work on cleaning up some of the 5 college art museum sites -- it looks like the combined database for the art collections is at the Five College Museums/Historic Deerfield web site instead of Museums10, and I've updated the Mead Art Museum, Mt. Holyoke Art Museum, Historic Deerfield, Five College Museums/Historic Deerfield, Art Galleries, and Museums10 pages to reflect its location. I think that database has been getting shuffled around, but its one of the best around. Smawnmahlau
Hi Smawnmahlau- Great!! I really liked what you did with Five College Museums/Historic Deerfield. And thanks for the feedback - Classicfilms 12 May, 2006.
Bookstore articles
Howdy! Thanks for your attention to the bookstore articles. Please use {{retail-stub}} for the stub articles, though, because {{book-stub}} is used for books themselves, and sometimes book terminology. As long as the article has a "Bookstores" category of some sort it will get found. Thanks again - Her Pegship 15:13, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi Her Pegship,
Thanks for the feedback! What you are saying makes sense - independent bookstores are retail, but they provide a number of other services related to the community and to literature (sometimes in a way which is similar to Salon (gathering)s), which is why I was trying to be more specific.
I wonder if a stub could be created which is called independent bookstore stub - or something else which is a bit more specific to the nature of independent bookstores? I'm thinking in terms of stubs such as the publish-stub for articles about companies that work with books.
That way, there isn't the confusion that you raise with "book" and the stub is a little more specific than the wider category of "retail." -- Classicfilms 15 May 2006.
History of Mount Holyoke College
You reverted my edit, asking that I quote directly from the source. It is, unfortunately, poorly worded for quotation inclusion directly into the article. I'm going to reintroduce without the loaded word that you specifically referenced. It is used in the source however, "In fact, Mount Holyoke gained a reputation as a 'rib factory.'" I hope that this is an acceptable solution. GRBerry 03:19, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Hi GRBerry, I like the revision - I made a few minor tweaks as well. Interesting bit of information - thanks for the contribution. - Classicfilms 3 June 2006 (UTC)
- I like your expansion. This is still a stub, but the article look a lot less neglected. (I'm one of those who prefers to see prose over boxcruft.) GRBerry 17:46, 3 June 2006 (UTC)
- I agree - I hope more people contribute to it. Thanks for your feedback - Classicfilms 3 June 2006 (UTC)
Hi
Hi! Thanks for working on Satyajit Ray. Also thanks for creating the stub for the film Kapurush. I once created many stubs on his films. Over last few months, Shmitra (talk • contribs) has improved the article quite a lot. We have plans to go for a peer review of the article soon. However, the size of the article is quite large. I guess some daughter articles have to be created and the main article will need summarisation. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 06:55, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Hi Dwaipayan, Thanks for the feedback - I am glad to help out. Perhaps a solution to the length of the Ray article, as you suggest above, would be to break it up. I think that an excellent example is the page on Rabindranath Tagore, with each section serving as an introductory paragraph for a much larger article. -- Classicfilms 16 June 2006
Thank You
Hello Classicfilms. Thanks for creating a Miss Hall's article. I also noticed that you made several edits. I'm just curious about your affiliation with the school. Thanks!
Jennifer1989 16:04, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi Jennifer1989,
You're welcome! Glad to help...I am not affiliated with Miss Hall's School. I created the article when I was working on the biography of Jean Erdman who graduated from Miss Hall's in 1934. I also work on articles related to women's colleges and schools so Miss Hall's falls into the category. I hope you will develop and add to the article ! -Classicfilms 16:09, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi Classicfilms. Glad to see that a supporter of women's education. In looking at the history of edits for the Miss Hall's article, I notice that you edited a considerable amount of information out of the article citing NPOV. I believe the deleted text does give information about the school- what I believe to be the purpose of Wikipedia. For example, information about the leadership program, school affiliations, and the school motto were deleted. These are simply factual information about the organization. I would like to develop the article as you suggested so I plan to restore some edits. Just wanted to know how to do so, keeping NPOV in mind.
Jennifer1989 20:06, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
- Sure, sounds like a great idea! I removed material from that page which had been copied directly from the Miss Hall's website. This violates Wikipedia's editing policy. If you want to give factual, objective information about the school, simply summarize the areas you want to talk about and give a URL which acts as a reference to your claim. NPOV edits usually involve removing material which presents the information in a subjective way - however, if you can support your claim with a reference , it should be fine. In that case, you should quote directly. Take a look at the Mount Holyoke College page which I've worked on and look at other school sites to get an idea of how they should be edited. I look forward to reading your work. -Classicfilms 20:24, 14 July 2006 (UTC)
Podokesaurus
Hi Classicfilms, Thanks for your recent edit to Podokesaurus. However, I did revert your edit. You added the specific name to the top of the article. According to the decision on Wikipedia's WikiProject:Tree of Life, articles are only supposed to go down to the genus level. The article should mention species within the genus, but the article itself should be about the genus. Your recent change, moving the full name to the top of the article, made the article about the species, which is why it was reverted. If you have further questions, feel free to send me a message. Happy editing, --Firsfron of Ronchester 19:45, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi Firsfron of Ronchester, Sure, that's fine - thanks for the explanation! It will help with my editing in the future. --Classicfilms 20:06, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Wonder Woman
This Now Playing interview is what BBC refers to. Should we cite this instead? There's also some useful information about Wonder Woman that Whedon discussed in the interview. --Erik 22:50, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi Erik,
I see, that makes more sense. Yes, please change the citation to Now Playing as it's the better article. Thanks for all of your great work! -Classicfilms 22:56, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Devdas (1935 film)
My edits restored the silent film stub... that was a mistake and I didn't mean to. I did mean to restore "(Hindi: देवदास, Urdu: دیوداس)" because that merely is the title of the film in those scripts... it does not say it is the language of the film. In fact it clearly says "Bengali film" in the opening. I think it is valuable to have Hindi and Urdu listed because the film is released to those markets as well as to the Bengali market. Having the Begali script would be the best but we don't have that yet. It doesn't imply that the film is somehow in Hindi or Urdu. Also, you tend to make 5 edits each time you chamge a page. Please consider using the "show preview" button so you can cut down on those changes as it makes it easier to navigate a page's history. gren グレン 08:52, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Vidhu Vinod Chopra
Hi, the expansion was great! However, pl. be careful abt the existing material - His oscar nomination is highly important and it got removed, probably inadvertently, during your edits. Such deletions are almost never noted on RC patrol because your edits were improving the article. btw, you may want to sign-up with the Indian cinema project. --Gurubrahma 17:20, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Gurubrahma - Many, many thanks for pointing this out - yes it was removed inadvertently. I went ahead and created a page for An Encounter with Faces and also added the oscar information to his credits. Thanks again for the feedback. -Classicfilms 22:00, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Re: Vidhu Vinod Chopra
Hi... I really enjoyed your work on Vidhu Vinod Chopra. I was thinking about doing a major write up on his two early films Sazaye-Maut and Khamosh. I would really love it if you could help out on those films (provided you've seen them). Thanks. --Antorjal 04:43, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

Does the list in Hidden Ivies really omit Rutgers?
In Public Ivies, you quoted a list from an appendix to Hidden Ivies. As quoted, the list does not included Rutgers, a surprising omission given that they had included it in their book on "public ivies." Would you mind double-checking and seeing whether they really left out Rutgers in their list in "Hidden Ivies?" Dpbsmith (talk) 12:40, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Dpbsmith (talk) - Sure, I'm happy to check. Appendix II, page 303, titled "Other Colleges and Universities of Excellence", is divided into three parts. The first is "Middle Size Private Universities" which does not (and would not) include Rutgers since Rutgers is a state school. The second part is titled "State Universities" and lists the schools I placed on the Public Ivies page - Rutgers is not included. The third part on page 304 is "Scientific and Technical Universities" which does not list Rutgers. There is another section on page 304, "Additional Colleges of Note", but this also does not list Rutgers. I checked in the index and Rutgers is not listed. -Classicfilms 14:15, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
-
- Additional note. I restored the list on the Public Ivies page - which I had originally placed - and left your note that this list omits Rutgers. -Classicfilms 14:23, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
Lage Raho Munna Bhai
Hi! I saw your recent edits in the article. Thank you for the nice work, especially for all the citations. Just keep an eye so that citations are placed immediately after the punctuation mark, not before. I have done a bit of copyediting. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:39, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Re: Gandhi
Hi - my removal of data from the "legacy" section reflects 4 main concerns (a) this article is too long, (b) no need to list so many statues of Gandhi and (c) the films/video games etc. is all too new and overplayed in importance. "Gandhigiri" deserves one sentence - the rest belongs to the article on the film itself. Also (d) the film poster and postage stamps are to be used to describe the stamps/film in question, not Gandhi - this is a "fair use" issue. Rama's arrow 23:09, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- Hi Rama's arrow - Thanks for the clarification. I think it is fair to want to trim the article down since it is long and if fair use is an issue with images, the images should be removed. However, the points in the section are legitimate, and deserve reference on the main page. I will cut the film section down since a new section was created and move the material there, but we need to link to the daughter page since the films on Gandhi are relevant to his legacy. -Classicfilms 23:13, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- "Lage Raho Munnabhai" is a recent film - you include reviews and accounts of interpretation of that film. This stuff is irrelevant to Gandhi's biography. Bineg a recent film, the "Gandhigiri" stuff might just be hype. Its fair to give it a sentence but I'm definitely opposed to anything more. Discussions of the film's attributes must be reserved for the film article. Rama's arrow 23:17, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- I didn't create the paragraph but I did edit what was already there. It is fair to want to move the information to the film page and give a redirect so I will do that. I also placed legacy above criticism. -Classicfilms 23:21, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- Cool, thanks. I apologize for having removed this data without commenting on the talkpage first. Rama's arrow 23:22, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

- No problem at all - I appreciate the way in which you reworked the article - it really looks great! I will start editing the film section in a moment. -Classicfilms 23:26, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

Please don't add actor templates
Per a discussion at the Indian cinema project (WP:INCINE) and communication from the larger Wikipedia film project, we are not using actor templates. Project members are removing templates when they see them, though we haven't gotten round to deleting the templates -- which seems to have been a mistake.
Please don't re-add them. If the actor/actress has an article, that is linked to the article for his/her films; the article has a filmography. That's all that's needed! Otherwise we're going to see the bottom of articles bulk up with multiple templates, if every actor who appears in the film gets one. Zora 14:06, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
