Salutations!!! My name is Gregory Hilliard. I'm a short, studious, polite, traditional, professional, dependable, spastic, busy, straight-edged, goal-oriented, organized, ambitious, enthusiastic, obsessive-compulsive, optimistic, semi-paranoid, Christian, former military brat (Semper Paratus), Southern gentleman, multitasker, avid barbershopper, speedwalker & congenial choral/vocal/church musician who dislikes tardines (& people think I'm naturally funny).
Originally from Portsmouth, VA, spent ’96-’05 living in North Homestead [Miami], FL (used to dislike it, but in Tallahassee, I miss Miami, but deny that I'm from there sometimes). Raised in Savannah, GA; Manhattan, NY; Jacksonville, FL; & Renton [Seattle], WA. Adored high school (New World School of the Arts in Downtown Miami, FL), but college has its perks.
I'm a Choral Music Education (Voice-BariTenor Principal) major/Psychology minor/Church Music certificate candidate at the Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL. Unlike those who graduated before me from FSU's Music Ed program, I do plan on graduating on time. People tell me to should switch back to/double major in Voice Performance, but personally don't think I sing well enough to make it in the performance world, plus I've been told I'm too nice.
I'm quite fond of Tallahassee, despite a few things, but I don’t care much for FSU because I didn't want to come here & very few things went the way I’ve wanted them to my 1st year (mainly socially). I can't transfer, but I really try to make the best of it. With God, anything is possible!
Love my family, despite their occasional difficulty & miss them when 500 miles away (father [former USCG CPO, now hospital technician], mother [self-employed hair braiding business owner], older sister [FSU Summer '06 graduate] & younger sister [FIU freshman]). Also love church (currently attend Trinity UMC of Tallahassee & in the Chancel Choir & College-Career Handbells; stepping stone to a paying church gig), going to class and learning, studying, reforming a barbershop quartet, and choral music! I work for the College of Music Recital Halls.
Aspire to receive my MM[E] in either Music Education or Choral Conducting (possibly with a Religious/Sacred Music Emphasis) & DMA in Choral Conducting (possible Sacred Music emphasis) (top 9 grad schools: Westminster Choir College, U of MN-Twin Cities, Eastman, UMiami, CCM @ UCincinnati, FSU, UT-Austin, Northwestern, & Luther Seminary) & become a great, energetic professional symphonic choral conductor, a college/university choral conductor/director of choral activities, a [church] choral music [education] professor [at a Lutheran college [I’m Non-Denominational] with an amazing choral program, like St. Olaf College [LOVE this school; was my 1st choice college]], a church [choral] music director, &/or possibly a music publishing company studio singer (sight-reading is one of my FAVORITE hobbies!). Would like to live in Minneapolis/St. Paul, or Dallas/Ft. Worth in professional years. Would love to win a Grammy for "Best Choral Performance," & wouldn't hurt to win an International Gold Medal from the Barbershop Harmony Society for directing a champion chorus &/or being a member in a college or professional quartet.
I've been a long time reader of Wikipedia, but will interject a few factual things here and there. I'm new at this, so please bear with me.
