[edit] Summary
When a boy named Theo takes an interest in Sissi, Hervé becomes jealous and tries to get him expelled. The situation only gets worse when XANA possesses the Cafeteria during lunch, trapping most of the students inside its electified walls. Jeremie and Yumi leave the cafeteria before this takes place. Now Yumi has to has to get Aelita to the Tower by herself before the Cafeteria collapses in on itself...and Ulrich and Odd.
[edit] Recap
It is late afternoon at Kadic Junior High School. Jeremie is in his room chatting with Aelita via his desktop computer. Aelita asks where the others are and Jeremie says they are playing soccer and resting. Aelita asks what "rest" is and Jeremie explains it the best he can to the digital girl. He adds that he used to find it boring until he met her.
On the Athletic Field, Ulrich, Odd, Hervé, Nicolas and other students are playing soccer. Sissi, who formulated Hervé and Nicolas' team, is watching from the bleachers with Yumi. Sissi scans her team, which comprises of Nicolas, Hervé, several seventh graders and another eighth grade student, Jean-Baptiste Pujol, who is playing goalie. Ulrich dribbles past opponent Tristan Brossard and is blocked by Hervé, who says, "You won't get past me!" Ulrich does, and executes an overhead kick that enables Odd to head the ball past a diving Pujol into the net and score. While Ulrich and Odd celebrate their seventh goal of the evening and Sissi's team mopes, Sissi screams at Herb and Nicholas for their lackadaisical playing. The ball rolls out of the net and it is collected by a pair of hands. These hands belong to a new kid, who introduces himself as Theo Gauthier. He says he just moved into town and immediately gets interested in Sissi, to Hervé's annoyance. He offers to join Sissi's team, pointing out that they need help. Sissi, Nicolas and Pujol give Theo a once-over and quickly induct him.
Apparently Theo's skill and presence increased his team's morale, since in the next scene they rallied to win the game 10-8. During the dinner meal, Odd invites Theo to join him and his friends. Theo politely declines and decides to sit with Sissi's Gang. Hervé, who does not want Theo and Sissi together, says that if the hot-shot newcomer wants to join the gang he must pass an initiation test. (Before this, Herb has a daydream of Sissi and himself getting a bit romantic and almost kissing; their bodies are silthouetted somewhat.) When Theo inquires as to what he must do, Hervé suggests scrubbing the toilets clean with a toothbrush. Theo declares this "a pretty dumb test." Sissi decides to give Theo another test - to decorate the skeleton in the Science Building with pink toilet paper, turning it into a mummy.
Hervé, still jealous of Theo for trying to get romantically involved with Sissi, plots with Nicholas Poliakoff to get Theo expelled. Meanwhile, Ulrich and Odd overhear their little plan and decide to get in on the fun.
That night, whilst Theo is pulling the prank, Hervé and Nicholas sneak in where they plan to call Headmaster Delmas and tip him off to this violation of school code, which would effectively expel Theo. They are stopped, however, by Odd and Ulrich's counter-prank. Hearing eerie howling behind the hallway door, Hervé and Nicolas are quickly unnerved. When Kiwi, covered in a sheet, bursts through the door and careens down the hall that is the last straw. The two boys cut their losses and run away screaming. Ulrich and Odd just sit laughing on the pavement until Jim catches them and sends them off.
The next day in the Cafeteria, Team Lyoko sits down and discuss matters. Hervé, Nicolas, Sissi and Theo are sitting nearby while Milly and Tamiya sit in another corner of the room. Unbeknowest to the dining students, the electrical outlets below their feet are smoking. Jeremie leaves early with Yumi to talk to Aelita whilst Odd remains in the lunchroom to eat all the remaining custard cakes. Ulrich stays with him.
Suddenly, short circuits break out all over the Cafeteria. Ulrich suspects a XANA attack, and phones Jeremie. Amidst the ensuing confusion, Odd tries to leave the Cafeteria via charging the door. His efforts come to naught as he is electrocuted by the door handle. Ulrich drags him away from the handle and Odd collapses, unconscious.
Meanwhile, Jeremie and Yumi get to the Factory and Jeremie transfers, scans and virtualizes Yumi into the Forest Sector, where the activated Tower is. After greeting each other, the two take off in the direction of the pulsations. When they reach a fork in the path a short ways down, Aelita feels pulsations going two ways, so the two females must split.
The entire lunchroom is engulfed in electricity with Ulrich, Odd, Sissi, Hervé, Nicholas, Theo, Milly, and Tamiya left inside. Ulrich attempts to break through the cieling by hurling a chair at it. This only succeeds in vaporizing the chair. The overhead fluorescent lights begin to explode, and Sissi is nearly hit by debris, but Theo dives and pushes her out of the way. At this point the Cafeteria roof begins to collapse, but the students build a fort out of tables to hold it up. Hervé gets claustrophobic (hence the episode title) and tries to break out of the building, screaming that he must get free. Theo stops him, knowing that Hervé will be electrocuted if he tries. This only serves to anger Hervé further, who rudely tells Theo to back off.
Outside the Cafeteria, Jim also gets shocked, causing Mrs. Hertz to worry. A ladder company from the municipal fire department, as well as the city's fire chief, arrive at the scene to assess the situation. They try several methods to free the captive students. One fire fighter cuts all the wires in a curbside breaker box, but to no avail. Puzzled, the fire fighters decide to cut a hole in the roof. Headmaster Delmas is communicating with Sissi via cell phones and giving his daughter a play-by-play of the fire department's activities. When the chief inspects the roof and signals that it too is blocked by electricity, Headmaster Delmas gives up hope and Sissi frantically tries to talk to her father.
Inside the Cafeteria, Hervé knows that the end is near, so he apologizes to Theo for being a jerk. Theo accepts the apology.
Back on Lyoko, Yumi finds nothing her way, but Aelita is attacked by two Krabes. Yumi is alerted to this threat and quickly maneuvers to dispatch the two Krabes. While Yumi dashes to the scene, Aelita uses her Creativity to raise a tree trunk from a pit that she just stands on. Jeremie frantically pleads with Aelita to find some cover. The pink-haired girl serenely affirms that Yumi will rescue her. The Krabes open fire, but Yumi grabs Aelita and saves her just in time, much to the relief of Jeremie. The Krabes' laser bolts pass each other and hit the Eyes of XANA on the opposite Krabes, causing each one to blow up. Aelita soon deactivates the Tower. The lunchroom and everyone in it is saved just as the roof begins to fall, and Jeremie initiates a time reversion.
At the end of the episode, nothing in the soccer match changes. Pujol still fails to stop Odd from scoring. However, instead of Theo collecting the rebounding ball, Yumi steps onto the field with her backpack slung over her shoulder. She stops the ball with her boot and announces that she has to go home. Theo pops out of nowhere and offers to escort Yumi to her house, although he has to ask for directions. Although this affectively averts anything between Sissi, Theo and Hervé, Ulrich gets annoyed by Theo's incursion and questions Odd's methods (Odd engineered this whole occurrence). Odd responds by asking Ulrich if he had any better ideas for averting the Sissi-Theo disaster.
[edit] Memorable Quotes
- Ulrich: You've finished lunch already?
- Jeremie: No, but I want to see Aelita for a while before class.
- Yumi: I wouldn't mind either. We'll go together, okay?
- Odd: Leave your trays, it's a shame to let good deserts go to waste!
- Jeremie: Odd don't you ever stop eating, huh?
- Ulrich: (to Odd) If you eat that much, you're going to explode!
[edit] Trivia
[edit] Cinematic Notes
- After Headmaster Delmas tells Sissi that the firemen are making a hole in the roof, Theo is seen with black hair, an orange vest, and a green shirt. Although, he really has brown hair, a green vest, and an orange shirt. Also, David Gasman provides the voice of Theo. He would later voice another romantic rival for Ulrich, William Dunbar.
- Hervé's daydream of Sissi and he getting romantic is silhoutted so you don't see their faces and bodies.
[edit] Cultre Notes
The unique design of the metallic helmets worn by the firefighters is common throughout European fire departments, including France, Great Britain and Sweden.
