Claudy

Claudy is a village in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland, six miles southeast of Derry. It is situated at the point where Fore Glen and Glenrandal join the Faughan Valley. It had a population of 1,316 people in the 2001 Census. It has two primary schools, a church and a college named St. Patricks and St.Brigids College.

Claudy is classified as a village by the NI Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) (ie with population between 1,000 and 2,250 people). On Census day (29 April 2001) there were 1,316 people living in Claudy. Of these:

• 26.7% were aged under 16 and 12.3% were aged 60 and over
• 49.1% of the population were male and 50.9% were female
• 77.9% were from a Catholic background and 21.4% were from a Protestant background
• 4.9% of people aged 16-74 were unemployed.
