Ortiz was born and raised in Willingboro, New Jersey. She started singing at an early age and upon reaching high school age, she met future bandmates Robby Pardlo and Ryan Toby. Ryan Toby had some entertainment industry experience working on the movie Sister Act 2. Robby and Ryan were working on a record deal with Wyclef Jean. Since Booga Basement, Wyclef's record label, already had a male duo group, Wyclef suggested to bring in Robby Parldo's girlfriend (at the time) Claudette. The trio was then formed City High.
