From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Claude Arrieu (November 30, 1903 - March 7, 1990) was a prolific French composer. Born in Paris, she entered the Paris Conservatoire where she studied with Georges Caussade (counterpoint), Jean Roger-Ducasse, Paul Dukas (composition) and Marguerite Long (piano). She received the first prize for composition in 1932.

Her music had the ease of flow and elegance of structure that typified Parisian neoclassicism. Vivacity, clarity of expression and a natural feel for melody were her hall marks. Her radio score Frederic General won the Prix Italia in 1949. Her music included several stage works, concertos and numerous wind chamber pieces.
