Classic Stage Company is the 38 year old classical theatre dedicated to reimagining the classical repertory for a contemporary American audience. Located in their 180 seat theatre near Union Square in New York City, Classic Stage Company is led by Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Jessica R. Jenen.

Classic Stage Company is the award-winning Off-Broadway theatre committed to re-imagining the classical repertory for a contemporary American audience. CSC presents plays from the past that speak directly to the issues of today. While returning to works of the past, they keep a clear eye on the future, particularly in terms of the next generation of artists and audiences.
Classic Stage Company is highly respected and widely regarded as a major force in New York and American theater. Its 180-seat auditorium located near Union Square is at once intimate and spectacular, and is cherished by artists in every aspect of theater as one of the great spaces in New York. Classic Stage productions have been cited repeatedly by the major Off-Broadway theater awards: Obie Award, Drama Desk Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, Drama League Award and 1999 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Body of Work. Founded in 1967, Classic Stage Company is one of Off-Broadway's longest enduring theaters, and is regarded as one of the most exciting theaters on the current New York scene. This season John Turturro directs the New York premiere of A Spanish Play by Yasmina Reza translated by David Ives starring Zoe Caldwell and Denis O'Hare.
Past productions have included Hamlet and Richard II both staring Michael Cumpsty, Amy Irving in a new translation of Ibsen's Ghosts by Pulitzer-prize winner Lanford Wilson. Steve Martin's new adaptation of Carl Sternheim's 1910 farce, The Underpants, Anne Bogart's staging of Room, based on the writings of Virginia Woolf. John Turturro, Tony Shalhoub and Christopher Lloyd appeared in Waiting for Godot, and Uma Thurman made her stage debut in The Misanthrope. Dan Castellaneta made his New York stage debut in The Alchemist, and Mira Sorvino and Daniel Benzali appeared in Pirandello's Naked. The 2001 season saw the clown Bill Irwin adapt Beckett's Texts for Nothing, and the New York premiere of Philip Glass's latest opera, In the Penal Colony.
Other prominent artists who have worked at Classic Stage Company include Stanley Tucci, Liev Schreiber, Jean Stapleton, David Strathairn, Peter Riegert, Frances McDormand, Billy Crudup, Mandy Patinkin, Eric Bogosian, Michael Torke and many others.
