[edit] Proposal
In 1939 Clarence Gamble and Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood wrote a proposal called "Birth Control and the Negro,".The plan obtained funding from Albert Lasker, who is often considered to be the founder of modern advertising. They denied allegations the plan was a black "extermination plot".
Quotes from the proposal:
- "the poorer areas, particularly in the South . . . are producing alarmingly more than their share of future generations,"
- "black children were destined to become a burden to themselves, to their family, and ultimately to the nation."
[edit] Poem
In 1947 Clarence wrote an untitled poem and send it to the North Carolina Mental Hygiene Society in the hope that it was used in pamphlets and other reading material to get support for the eugenic sterilization program of North Carolina. The society declined to use it.
