Clair Huxtable

Clair Huxtable (née Hanks) is a character from The Cosby Show. She was played by actress Phylicia Rashad. After The Cosby Show went off the air, she and Bill Cosby reunited, once again playing husband and wife on his other sitcom, Cosby.

Clair is married to obstetrician Cliff Huxtable. Clair goes to law school while taking care of her five kids, Sondra, Denise, Theo, Vanessa and Rudy. She eventually becomes a legal-aid attorney. She plays the typical role of a mother, including getting the kids to school, taking care of them, and, to Cliff's dislike, tries to stop her husband from eating fat and sugar out of concerns for his health. Cosby said in interviews after the series ended that while doing initial casting, he insisted that his television wife know how to speak Spanish.
