Citizens United Negating Technology For Life And People's Safety (CUNTFLAPS), or just Citizens United Negating Technology, is a spoof Internet-based anti-Internet group set up by Rockstar North as part of the promotional campaign for the PSP game Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. The group's site satirizes the puritanical attitude of American attorney and self-described "anti-games activist" Jack Thompson, who had censored Rockstar's previous Grand Theft Auto game, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, for containing a hidden sexually explicit sub-game (see the Hot Coffee mod article).
The main Liberty Cities Stories site features an "e-mail" from "JT@citizensunitednegatingtechnology.org", decrying the evils of the Internet and asserting that the "only things worse than the internet are computer games and liberals." An accompanying audio advertisement for the group features a mother finding a naked man named Jack in her young son's room. Jack Thompson took very public exception to CUNTFLAPS, and sent an angry letter to US Web site GamePolitics.com, titled "Rockstar Launches Web Site for Obscene Assault on Miami Lawyer Jack Thompson". Therein he complained that the subtext of the various allusions to himself on the Liberty Cities site was that he was a "Bisexual pedophile", and concluded,
- "Take-Two/Rockstar has created and paid for an actual Internet web site at www.citizensunitednegatingtechnology.org for the purpose of furthering the notion that its most abiding and most effective critic, Jack Thompson, is himself a sexual pervert. This is the oldest dodge used by the porn industry, first used on Jack Thompson by radio pornographers whom Thompson got fined by the FCC in 1989...Jack Thompson can assure the world that the only thing to which he is "addicted" is eating entertainment industry scofflaws for breakfast - and golf."
The CUNTFLAPS site itself contains a list of patently ludicrous reasons to disconnect from the Internet, and testimonials from those on whose lives it has had a negative effect. Another advertisement in-game featured an officemate of another man named Jack showing him pornographic pictures of Jack's daughter found on the internet. This may be a parody during the late 1990's (even today) by many critics of the Internet who say it's filled with pornography, a haven for child predators, and cyberterrorism.
