Citadel High School, scheduled to be opened in September 2007, is located at the site of the former Nova Scotia Community College, located on Bell Road in central Halifax, Nova Scotia. It was designed by the architectural firm Fowler Bauld & Mitchell, and is being built by Pomerleau Construction.

The new school will replace aging St. Patrick's and Queen Elizabeth high schools, opened in 1955 and 1942 respectively. This new school is set to have an International Baccalaureate program, the first of its kind in a public school in the Halifax area.

Citadel will have a projected enrolment of 1,200 students in grades 10-12. Construction began in spring of 2006 and the new school will is expected to cost $21 million.

The new school will include a 10,500 square foot gymnasium, 4,800 square foot cafeteria, 3,000 square foot library, and an auditorium. Community-led fundraisers were held to raise funds for the completion of the auditorium.

Citadel High School will incorporate some architectural elements of the two existing high schools and the former community college. Six bas-relief sandstone carvings which were located at the entrances of QEH will be installed in the new cafeteria. The carvings depict school-related activities such as science, sports, drama, and history. The new school will also feature four new sandstone carvings which will be done by students of Citadel.

Sandstone banding that will be integrated into the brick work on the west wall of the new school will be salvaged from the facade of St. Pat's. Bleacher seating from the gymnasium at St. Pat's will be refinished to accommodate an additional 300 spectators in the new gymnasium.

Approximately 3500 glass blocks salvaged from the former community college will become part of the wall in the gymnasium and the original wooden main entry, which includes beveled glass, will become the entrance of the new school's library

An effort is being made to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification with the project. This "green building" rating system emphasizes sensible land-use, energy efficiency, and comfort. Examples of LEED elements in the project include the field sod roof of the cafeteria, collected rainwater used for flushing toilets, extensive use of construction materials with recycled content, use of Low-E glazing and a reflective white ThermoPlastic Olefin roof membrane.
