Circle Takes the Square (often abbreviated CTTS) is a Experimental/Thrash band from Savannah, Georgia, USA. The band formed in 2000 as a four piece and after their first two releases they lost a guitarist but gained another in late 2004. The band's style is characterized by loud screaming of both male and female vocals that often function in a kind of call and response and chaotic drumming coupled with intense, highly technical bass/guitar work. Highly diverse song structures (from meditative, droning intros to crushing choruses) have also assisted in carving their unique niche. Many people describe their songs as 'epic,' because of their length (some songs reach 9.5 minutes) but more because they change so gradually, starting slow moving into chaotic and lightning-fast. Their debut release was a 7-track self-titled EP, followed later by the full length album 'As the Roots Undo.' The band completed a tour of the UK in mid-2004. The band has done a lot of West Coast tours, and has just completed a tour of the United States called The Endless Safari tour, now apparently they're working on new material for a second full-length record.
[edit] Additional Member Info
The band is known for their members' vegetarian lifestyles. In an update of their webpage on April 25, 2006, they announced that, "we are nominated on peta2.com's contest for the sexiest vegetarians of 2006! As you all know we are very very sexy vegetarians/vegans/raw foodists."
Guitarist Drew Speziale produces all of the band's artwork, and his independent visual work can be found at Crowquill.net.[1]
