Cincom Systems, founded in 1968, is one of the longest-serving companies in the software industry. It is an independently owned company. According to the company website, it ranks among the top 5% of all private software companies worldwide.

Cincom is one of the oldest and largest privately held software firms in the United States. *Tom Nies has been the CEO of Cincom Systems since he founded the company.
The company was foundered on the TOTAL Database Product. This was a network database which Cincom successfully marketed. It ran on IBM mainframes and was ported to many different platforms and sold thousands of copies in 1970s and 1980s. Cincom developed related software including a TP monitor, a Query Tool and a ERP Manufacturing package. It the 1980s they picked up a 3rd Generation Development tool (3GL) called Mantis to complement the database. This was also sucessful and sold over a thousand copies. In the 1990s the relational database vendors like ORACLE eclipsed the non-relational database vendors. Recently they purchased the commercial smalltalk products of several vendors and have become known as the supplier of commercial smalltalk.
