Ciaran Carey (born 16 January 1970) is a former Irish sportsperson who played hurling for Limerick in the 1990s.
Ciaran Carey was born in Patrickswell, County Limerick in 1970. Making his senior inter-county debut in 1989, Carey played on the great Limerick hurling team of te 1990s. During his career he won several County Championship medals with his club, Patrickswell, as well as two Munster club titles. In the mid-1990s Limerick were one of the best teams in the country. Carey won a Munster Championship medal in 1994 and qualified for the All-Ireland Hurling Final against Offaly. Limerick had all but won the game, however, Offaly scored an incredible two goals and six points in the last five minutes to clinch victory. Two years later in 1996 Limerick met reigning All-Ireland champions Clare in the first round of the Munster Championship. The score was level for much of the game but Carey proved the hero when he scored the winning point. Limerick progressed and claimed another Munster title with Carey playing a prominent role. Once again Limerick qualified for the All-Ireland final but this time they were well-beaten by Wexford. Carey also won a National Hurling League title and has several All Star Awards to his name.
