Garvey is one of the founding members of moe. along with Rob Derhak.[3] Both first played a Halloween show at a friends request in 1989 with drummer Ray Schwartz. He briefly left the band in the summer of 1993 due to personal issues, but returned two months later and "beg[ged] for re-admittance and more abuse."[4][5] Since then, Garvey has been co-guitarist of the band along with Al Schnier.

[edit] Other bands

Garvey has also performed as part of Ha Ha the Moose with Derhak and moe. drummer Jim Loughlin, as well as with the All Thumbs Trio.[4][6]
