[edit] Pornography website scandal

After winning his Olympic gold medal, Chu immediately became a national celebrity. He frequented TV shows and showed up in various advertisements. However in May 2005 Chu surfed to a local pornography website and communicated with some on-line "cam girls" (camera girls) via internet camera. Although without physical contact, he was lured to perform some obscene actions and these actions were recorded. The local black gang, which ran this pornography website, took this chance to blackmail Chu and even vandalize his residence in Pingjhen City, Taoyuan County. A sum of 1.1 million NT$ was lost when Chu finally spoke to the police. Although the gang members in charge were quickly seized, this event greatly harmed Chu's image. Chu later apologized publicly, announcing that he would retire from all commercial public affairs and devote himself to preparing for the 2008 Olympics. He set up his will to win another gold medal.
