Reincarnation Chris, Yes I think you were right to remove the POV sentences from reincarnation, especially since they did not have any supporting citations. Good work. HeBhagawan 12:55, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Welcome to the wikipedia, Chris - just thought I'd offer up a little tip about signing your name on talk pages; if you type three tildes in a row (without spaces), thus: ~~~, the software replaces them with your name linked to your userpage. If you type four tildes in a row then that's followed by the date and time, which can be handy in some cases. If you need any help, there's the Wikipedia:Help page, and if you have any questions, ask them at the Wikipedia:Village pump. Have fun, and happy editing! --Camembert

Hi Chris. I saw your note on David Bondurant on the list of mathematicians. *All* the contributions from 165.91.123.107 relate to him, do have a look; the IP address is at Texas A&M University; so is he; and so on. I imagine it is a friend or colleague of his having a laugh, and that you were quite right to remove the reference. I'm not into maths but I am into the trumpet where I was wondering what to do about a very similar thing in the list of famous tpt players! Nevilley

Re. Indian and languages: You are right of course. I'll put back what I changed. Sorry! -- sannse 12:55 Feb 24, 2003 (UTC)

Hi Chris, I've set up a page at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (lists) and started moving the discussion at the pump to the related talk page. The pump is getting too long again and this is a better place to discuss the issue. I hope to see you there -- sannse 10:58 Mar 9, 2003 (UTC)

Would I be right in inferring that you consider it POV to mention that a majority of educated native speakers of English have always pronounced "formerly" differently from "formally"? In England in the last 150 years or so, perhaps that has changed, but most native speakers of English do not live in Britain. At any rate, my point was to contrast the assertion that RP carefully distinguishes between consonant sounds that get merged in most other dialect with the fact that in regard to the letter "r", the reverse is true: RP merges sounds between which most English-speakers distinguish. To me that seems to be a neutral verifiable fact, not POV. Michael Hardy 19:43, 10 Feb 2004 (UTC)

I think the mentioning of "educated speakers" makes it appear POV, implying (incorrectly) that this is a speech-pattern often found in uneducated speakers of English. I would be happy with "the majority of native English speakers", which is probably true due to the much larger US population (as well as England, Australia & New Zealand are largely non-rhotic, as are native English speakers from the Indian Subcontinent). -- Chris Q 09:11, 11 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Just to let you know, I own the domain wikipedia.org.uk. If admin want it, just let me know. Currently it is redirecting to en.wikipedia.org, but only the main page redirection works.

Hi just to let you know that I just deleted Sandbox/test. -- Graham ☺ | Talk 11:06, 3 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] Radio

When a Serb works in the US it's an American invention, but when an Italian works in the UK it's not a British invention!?

Marconi was half British, his mother was the heiress of the Jameson distilling company. He was educated in England and Italy and moved to the UK at the age of 22 and completed his work here. He moved back to Italy in 1935 and died there in 1937. There's also the work of Oliver Lodge and alexander Muirhead who gave the first public demonstration of the transmision of radio waves in 1894. [edit] Vfd problem

Hi, ChrisQ!

I have answered your question at the Village Pump about VfD listing (Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#VFD problem). It was your formatting of the VfD entry which was missing a few components.

BTW, it's a good idea to sign your postings on talk pages.

 • ~~~ sign your name only, in my case it looks like this: Sjakkalle
 • ~~~~ signs your name and datestamps it, looking like this: Sjakkalle 11:14, 5 May 2005 (UTC)
 • ~~~~~ only datestamps, looking like this: 11:14, 5 May 2005 (UTC)

The four tilde signature, name and datestamp, is the most usual one.

[edit] Not English

Hey, I noticed that you tried to have Ανεξάρτητη Φοιτητική ΈΠΑΛξη speedied for not being in English. That's what the notenglish template is for, actually. Just so you know. DS 13:12, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, I didn't know about that template -- Chris Q 13:37, 5 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Character issues

Thank you for your mediation work and your comments; it was a nice discussion and I fully agree with your decision (and leting it open for possible later change). [edit] Re: Political compass

No problem. Your edit summary left me a little confused as to your intentions so in turn I responded with what could either be considered as a bewildered or biting message. Thankfully it was just a mistake.

And yes your concern was quite the same as mine, but the anon, who has no particular interest in this topic, simply kills my edits on sight. Perhaps you might watch for him on this page. --TJive 16:05, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] British/American

The powers-that-be want us to edit on the "rewrite" page: List of words having different meanings in British and American English/rewrite. The "napkin" discussion is there. -- Gnetwerker 07:30, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Thanks - I have changed it there -- Chris Q 11:22, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Page name for temperature articles

To avoid flip-flopping between 'degree Fahrenheit' and 'Fahrenheit' or 'degree Celsius' and 'Celsius', I propose that we have a discussion on which we want. I see you have contributed on units of measurement, please express your opinion at Talk:Units of measurement. Thanks. bobblewik 23:09, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Firefox talk page

There has been an ongoing problem with users abusing the talk-page for the purpose of helpdesk style questions. This is not what wikipedia talk pages are for. They should be kept article related. I understand and appreciate the fact that you are simply being curteous, but in the future please advise the user that talk pages are for article related discussion at the least. Specifically the user you helped had already had his question reverted and reinstated it.--Oni Ookami AlfadorTalk|@ 15:39, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Writely Invite

Hi, Chris. You asked for a Writely invite at User:ByeByeBaby\Writely_Invites, but didn't leave any sort of e-mail address. I know I said to mess it up to avoid spam, but leaving it out entirely is a little too secure! When you get a chance, please update the page with an antispammed e-mail, and I'll send off the invite. Cheers! --ByeByeBaby 04:55, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lists of Words

There's a discussion going on at Wikipedia_talk:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Lists of Words over the interpretation of policy regarding lists of words. As a fairly recent contributor to [List of words having different meanings in British and American English], you might wish to add to the debate, as it affects several AfDs going on, and a current Deletion Review. Thanks. WLD 21:15, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Kama & Artha are lower Purusharths is a wrong statement.

One could say for deploring Kama & Artha as lower Purusharths. It could have been said, just to make people move to Dharma & Moksha. Lot of Sanyasees try to deplore Kama & Artha, particularly Jain Sadhus try to create hate in the minds of people living family life.

Does one not need money to do one's religious duties or support Sanyasees or Brahmins or religious institutions? Krishna has said in Srimad Bhagawad Geeta that "Kama" is my "Vibhuti." In Hindu doctrines "Kama" is supported confining sexual pleasure with one's wedded spouse in the witness of fire (A form of God), Brahmin and society. Is it possible to conquer "Kama" by any average person? Vishwamitra also sliped. When Krishna declared "Kama" as Krishna's "Vibhuti" who are we to deplore "Kama"? Indian has n' number of Sanyasees. With due respect to Swami Bhaskaranandji, I say that anything said in a particular situation or a context should not be incorporated in an article like Wikipedia which shall remain on a public forum for a long long future. Hope everyone will see the damage being done to Hindusim and restrain from continuing with statements deploring 4 pursuits of life. Swadhyayee 14:40, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
