[edit] Political Work
Lotito was a vocal activist against the MetroStars acquisition of land to build a training center in Pequannock. His defense cited concerns over building in a flood zone, natural preservation, and traffic patterns.
Lotito was a candidate for the Pequannock NJ Board of Education election in 2005. He was possibly the town's youngest BOE candidate ever and his entry into the election on the official ballot for an uncontested seat contributed to creating one of the hottest write-in races in the township ever. Lotito did not win and ended up with 185 votes.
Throughout the race Lotito was both publicly derided for his youth, as well as accused of having a criminal record for making threats in High School. A series of expose articles were written about Lotito in the Argus and the Bergen Record regarding Lotito's fitness as a candidate, which in turn resulted in a historically large number of write-ins. The overabundance of write-ins was also covered as news. Lotito was found legally fit to run for the BOE and despite an investigation the Bergen Record and NorthJersey.com were not able to produce any legal record supporting their claims, but were able to produce several local citizens claiming to have information about the accusations.
Lotito held a seat on the Pequannock Historic District Commission in 2005 and 2006.
