[edit] Biography

Christopher Fitzgerald is an American artist from Washington State with Hungarian and Irish roots; he is based in Austin, Texas. Fitzgerald was born in Melbourne, Florida on April 8, 1977. He graduated from Western Washington University in 1999. Austin Chronicle visual arts writer Rachel Koper listed Fitzgerald as one of her “favorite artists by body of work in 2005”[1] and one of her “favorite individual artists of 2004.” [2]

[edit] Artistic Approach

Informed by his study of recent art history and psychology, Fitzgerald’s paintings explore the creative process in four distinct series under the conceptual umbrella of paint as the subject matter. The first series contains magnified representational paintings of very small paint formations. The second is comprised of panels exhibiting copious applications of paint. The third is a sequence of brick structures bound together with paint as the mortar. The fourth series is comprised of paintings representing invented sculptures built with paint.
