[edit] Childhood
Christie was trained as a gymnast between the ages of 6 and 12, but gave up her dream of being world-famous in order to pursue acting. She has since said that her older sister Sara was "better than me anyway." She also played the flute, and learned to read music at age 8.
[edit] Home and Away
In 2000, Christie was cast as Kirsty, after turning down the role of Dani (her character's older sister), due to the fact that she was uncomfortable playing someone three years older than herself, (she was 13, the character was 16).
She was the first person to be cast in her on screen "Sutherland" family, and the only one to play two characters on the show. She played both Kirsty Phillips (née Sutherland) and Laura DeGroot (the two characters were twin sisters separated at birth). Christie, who was on the cover of TV Week more times in 2004 than any of her other castmates, left Home and Away in 2005 in order to travel and do films.
Christie is a talented singer. She sang on the episode of Home and Away where she renewed her vows to Kane on the same day that Hayley and Noah got married.
[edit] Charity Work
In 2003 at age 16, "Youth week" elected her as "Youth ambassador of Australia" for encouraging youth across Australia to realise their creativity. She also sponsors children through World vision Australia.
[edit] Currently
Christie now divides her time between Los Angeles, California, and Sydney, Australia. She quickly found success in Hollywood, after being one of two actresses considered for the part of Mirane in the Fox 2000 feature film Flicka, after living there only 3 weeks. She is also slated to produce a film during 2006.
Christie has just been revealed as the face of Pepsi Light in Australia, starring in their latest 2006 campaign (http://youtube.com/watch?v=_E4IxpnOirY). This is Christie's first big product endorsement and follows in the steps of Tammin Sursok (who coincidentally played her sister in Home and Away), Kylie Minogue, Jennifer Hawkins and many other high profile Australians.
Christie is engaged to her long-time boyfriend, Ashton Fernando.
She is signed with the famous agencys - Icon/Shanahan management and (has interest) with CAA. She will begin filming this year (2006)
