Christian Troy is the plastic surgeon played by Julian McMahon on FX Networks' Nip/Tuck. He is often regarded as the doctor with less talent, but more persona and business skill in the McNamara/Troy partnership.

Sean McNamara's best friend and business partner. Christian is also nearing middle age, but constantly desires to feel and appear young. He is the archetype of the tall, dark and handsome playboy. He constantly seduces and sleeps with women, only to cast them off once he's gotten the sexual satisfaction he wants from them. In Season 3, a sexual partner named Abby accused him of being a sadist after he made her put a bag over her head during sexual intercourse. Grace Santiago has also diagnosed Christian of having a sexual addiction.

It has been hinted at that Christian's borderline deviant sexual behavior may be rooted in the severe sexual abuse he suffered at the hands of his foster parents, or may be traced to his father, who raped his mother when she was a teenager (Christian was given up upon birth and only recently discovered his mother was still alive, although she found it too difficult to try and maintain any sort of contact with him).

When he and Sean were in college together, he had a one-night stand with Sean's then-fiancee, Julia McNamara, and impregnated her. For years, Julia had assumed that her son, Matt McNamara, is Sean's son, although she has always had a nagging doubt as to whether Christian was actually Matt's real biological father. Towards the end of season one, she finally had a paternity test performed on Matt and Christian (without their knowledge). In the season finale, she picked up the test results and learns the truth; Chrstian is Matt's real father. In the second season of the show, Julia eventually revealed who Matt's true father is, though it didn't change Matt and Christian's close relationship. Their relationship, however, does become severely strained following the revelation that Matt's lover, Ava Moore, is in fact a transsexual - something Christian quickly realized during sexual intercourse. In a rare moment of compassion, Christian joined with Sean in offering Ava complete sex reassignment surgery on the condition that she leave Matt alone.

He proposed to Kimber Henry and also convinced her to quit her job as a pornography director. Nevertheless, she disappeared moments before walking down the aisle on their wedding day. He was unaware that she had been kidnapped by The Carver, a masked serial killer targeting Sean and Christian's patients, and was forced to write the Dear John letter he received. Later on he entered briefly into a sexual relationship with an unattractive girl named Abby. He asked to wear a bag over her head during sex.

Christian thought that Kimber had left him, until he received a grisly package containing her breast implants from The Carver. She later turned up, and The Carver had undone all of her previous surgeries (10 or so) without anesthesia. He went in to see her, and saw her to be rather disfigured, and so he promised "to make her a 10 again." He re-did all of her previous surgeries simultaneously, and among other things, even suggested rescheduling their wedding, but she resisted. She thought that the Carver was right in thinking that "Beauty is a curse on the world." Christian thought she was now suffering from Stockholm syndrome. Although he still wanted to be with her, the feeling was not mutual.

Christian then suspected that Quentin Costa was The Carver, but was thrown off track when he discovered Costa had no penis (the Carver raped all of his victims, including Christian at the end of the second season.) However, when The Carver attacks a sorority house, one of the victims reveals that whoever raped them used a strap-on penis, indicating that Costa could still be the killer, until he was found strapped to a bed, having been "carved" himself. After Costa poured his heart out to Sean and Christian, the initially reluctant duo agreed to fix him. They paid dearly for it when The Carver sneaked up on Sean and drugged him, and then took off his mask to reveal that Christian's initial suspicions were correct; Costa was indeed the killer.

He then strapped both Sean and Christian to the operating tables. He cut off the tip of one of Sean's fingers, so Christian offered to sacrifice his left hand to save Sean. Before Costa could mutilate him, however, detective Kit McGraw, who had been investigating the case and was briefly involved in a three-way relationship with Christian and Kimber, shot him in the back.

Later both Sean and Christian found that Costa and McGraw were brother and sister, and had been working together to commit the murders. She had faked shooting Costa, who used a fake blood pack, to appear as though she saved them.

Recently, Christian started seeing a psychiatrist. During one of the sessions, the doctor took notice that Christian seemed unable or unwilling to make any sort of emotional connection with women, especially when he would often state that they expected too much from him. However, while he seemed to avoid the idea of any sort of emotional connection to the women he slept with, he was defensive and rather doting on his best friend Sean. This led the Doctor to speculate that perhaps the reason he could not connect to women was because his love was already taken by another: Sean.

When the doctor explained her theory that Christian could be in love with Sean, Christian grew defensive and firmly denied such accusations. However, in the days that followed this session, he avoided Sean and even changed his home to make it more "butch." After one of his past lovers posted a sex tape on the Internet, Christan saw what his body looked like and found it not all that attractive. During his search at re-creating his form, he met a younger and very attractive plastic surgeon who agreed to give him liposuction so as to "fix" his imperfections. During his operation, he pointedly avoided going to Sean's side during the birth of his child, which put further distance between the two friends.

Christian was also deeply troubled by a reoccurring dream about Sean. In the dream, both arrive to a gay pool party; Sean was uncomfortable and Christian told him that it's natural to feel strange being "newly out" after so long. After Christian started touching Sean's chest — to peel off the hair — Sean refused his advances and went inside the house. The guests in the pool invited Christian to join them, but Christian followed Sean inside, finding instead gay men pointing to the closet, directing him to Sean. Christian went into the closet and found himself in the McNamara/Troy operating room, with Michelle standing over Sean lying down on the table. Michelle then told Christian he needed to kiss Sean in order to save him. He began to, but then woke up next to Sean, where they looked at each other romantically, and leaned in to kiss each other. Christian then woke up in a sweat.

His issues with Sean have not yet been resolved but right now he is having trouble with the Landaus after his affair with Michelle has been discovered and he had to play the "stand-in dick" for Burt. He also manipulated Kimber into having sex with him when he was feeling bad.

His one night stand with Kimber would create a bigger wedge between them and would lead her to marry Matt. When Matt and Kimber announced her pregnancy to Sean and Christian, Kimber asked Christian to remove her breast implants for her child. While Christian operated on Kimber, he took a sample of DNA from Kimber's uterus to determine whether or not Kimber's unborn child was his or Matt's.

Christian would then get the results to learn that he isn't the father.

Christian has proposed to Michelle, she states that she wants to accept, but the first matter to be taken care of is to sell his apartment. Due to the fact that "many woman have slept in his bed", and they need there own place where there are "no memories and no ghosts." But he later begins doubting whether he can devote himself to one woman. While speaking with Sean about his misgivings Sean reveals to him that he talked with Dr. Faith Wolper and he knows that Christian has homosexual feelings for him. Christian is upset about the accusations, confronts Dr. Wolper at her office, and mistakingly sees the tattoo on her lower back that says, "PROPERTY OF CHRISTIAN TROY." He dismisses the whole event. Later, while Christian is packing and boxing his belongings he takes a last glimpse around his apartment. Right before he steps out from his bachelor pad for good, he sees every woman he's ever had sex with and they speak to him, but it is only his own conscience. He bids them farewell saying, "Goodbye ladies...its been swell" and leaves the apartment.

Near Christmas time, Christian gets an unexpected visitor, who is in fact the son of James Sutherland. Christian is informed that James and his wife have died in a car accident, and in James' will, he left Wilbur to Christian. After much hesitation and consideration, Christian took in Wilbur.

Since taking Wilbur in he has asked Michelle to be his adoptive mother and eventually she says yes. But not before Gina kidnaps him from the park. Lately things have been awkward between Christian and Michelle. Michelle gets a phone call and lies to Christian about what it was about.Later he walks in on Michelle about to do the surgery on Gala Gallardo's breasts. He asks her what she is doing, she mentions Escobar Gallardo and he asks how she knows him. She confesses that James worked for Escobar and that he is holding the reins to the organ theft ring. She as well asks how he knows Escobar, both not telling the other the complete truth.

Towards the end of season 4, Sean decides to sell his share of McNamara/Troy to Christian and Michelle, and moves to Los Angeles to get a new job. However, Christian soon decides to leave Michelle and sells his half of the practice to her as well. He then moves to Los Angeles, and it appears he and Sean will be setting up a new practice in Hollywood.

Christian's biological mother is named Gail Pollack. She has two children with her husband, Max and Samantha. Max is the same age as Christian's son Matt (18). Samantha is 11.
