Christian Hejnal
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Christian Hejnal (born June 3) is the guitarist and occasional vocalist of the Los Angeles-based rock band Scarling. His guitar technique is heavily influenced by prolific shoegazing guru Kevin Shields of the band My Bloody Valentine, William and Jim Reid of the Jesus and Mary Chain, and Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth.
Hejnal was born on June 3 in Berwyn, Illinois, but grew up in Southern California. In the early 1990s, he was a fixture of the Los Angeles rock scene, having played in a few moderately successful bands such as Candyhateful and The Drummed; the latter band also featured Moni Ritchie of This Trip, and Rob Campanella of The Quarter After and the Brian Jonestown Massacre. Besides Candyhateful's song "Stay Down" being featured in the 2000 film adpation of Anne Rice's "Queen of the Damned", neither band made much of a national impact. In 2001 Hejnal began work on a solo album. He invited singer Jessicka, whom he had met some months before at a Los Angeles club, to perform vocals on a track he had written; they began recording and rehearsing together and eventually recruited the musicians who would form Scarling. in 2002.
In addition to his work with Scarling., Hejnal has been, since 1999, a visual effects producer for Sony Pictures Imageworks, having worked on such films as Hollow Man, Charlie's Angels, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Darkness Falls, The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio, the Adam Sandler film Click, and Spider-Man 3.
On February 14, 2006, while on a break from touring, he and Scarling. singer Jessicka were engaged. Hejnal was one of the 60 guests when Marilyn Manson married Dita von Teese in Ireland.
In 2006 Christian continues to tour in the US and Europe with Scarling. Along the way, touring with such bands as UK shoegaze outfit Amusement Parks on Fire and opening for The Wedding Present and Depeche Mode. Scarling. are expected to begin working on their third full length album in early 2007.
