Christian Democratic Party (South Africa)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Christian Democratic Party (CDP) is a Christian social Conservative Party in South Africa. The Christian Democratic Party was registered on the 9th September 1999 and was launched a year later.

The Party has taken part in various elections and by-elections, and presently has Councillors in the Johannesburg Metropolitan Council as well as the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality.

The Party Leadership structure consists of the Party Federal Leader and two Co-Federal Leaders who, together with the Provincial Leaders, make up the Federal Leadership Council.

The CDP is committed to forming alliances with political parties and other organisations that support Christian principles and pursue similar political objectives in the interest of good governance.

Party Leader Rev. Theunis Botha has been a minister of the Gospel since 1970. He is a true pioneer and has been instrumental in starting new ministries in Pietermaritzburg, Klerksdorp, Oranjemund, Barberton, Kimberley, Port Elizabeth, and Pretoria. He is the founder of numerous ministries over a period of many years, namely: Christian Drama Workshop (CDW), Victorious Life Ministries (VLM), VLM Community Projects, Christian Fellowship of Ministries (CFM), Forum for Christians in Politics (FCP), and the Christian Democratic Party (CDP)

He has been involved in Christian Politics since 1994 (Counciller - Pretoria City Council; MPL - Gauteng Legislator) and served on boards of the Youth Development Outreach (YDO- Deputy President), and Inter-City Mission Fellowship (IMF). He has been the Chairman of a number of political groups and brings a strong Biblical influence to any organisation that he is part of, having been in the full time ministry for thirty-five years.

As a pioneer in church planting he is well prepared for the work of the CDP, which is initiating and building. As a founder member and the Federal Leader of the CDP, he motivates the Party and is able to contribute a prophetic influence. He is an avid opponent of the secular/humanist, socialist/liberal philosophies of the Governing Party and the Official Opposition, and enthusiastically supports biblical principles as the only sure political philosophy guaranteeing a fair and effective government, leading to true peace, justice and prosperity for all.

He is the Founder of and main contributor to Let's Talk Facts and has clear insights into the policies and objectives of the various political parties in South Africa.

Co-Federal Leader Joe Hanekom has been in politics since 1995 when he became a Councillor on the Pretoria City Council.

As Caucus chairman he became an important role-player in the council during that time. He was one of the few councillors that united and took a stand against the building of a Casino in Pretoria. This strong stand by these few brave councillors, are one of the reasons we still do not have a Casino in this city.

He joined the newly formed Christian Democratic Party in 2001 and became the first Gauteng Provincial Leader of the Party. In 2003 he was elected as the third Federal Leader, a position he has held with dignity and passion. He has proven to be an important part of the Federal Leadership Council where his business and financial experience is invaluable.
