Christian Brothers Academy (Syracuse, New York)

Christian Brothers Academy is a private, Catholic college preparatory school in Syracuse, New York run by the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, founded by St John Baptist de La Salle. The school has roughly 750 students in grades seven through twelve. It was founded in 1900 by the Christian Brothers, who still run the school, though most of the teachers are lay people. In 1960, it moved from its original site on Willow Street in downtown Syracuse to its current location in suburban Dewitt, New York.
CBA, as it is known, has a noted history of athletic achievement at the local and state levels; most recently, the varsity football team won the 2004 New York State Football Championship. Notable alumni include long time (1963-1982) Syracuse Common Councilor James P McCarthy (whom McCarthy Manor was named after), Congressman James T. Walsh, Onondaga County executive Nicholas Pirro, New York State Senator John DeFrancisco, star football/basketball player Greg Paulus, and Robert Congel.

As of the 2006-2007 school year, tuition information is as follows:[1]
- 7th and 8th Grades: $7200 + $190 activity fee
- 9th to 12th Grades: $7520 + $190 activity fee
Tuition changes (which have been steadily increasing over the last 5 years) are determined by the school's board of trustees each year in February. CBA does not offer discounts for multiple children attending the school, although financial aid is available.

Starting with the 2006-2007 school year, CBA will utilize InTuition, the only tuition management program exclusively committed to Catholic schools. The InTuition program offers a one month pay-in-full-plan (due in July) as well as 2 month, 4 month and 10 month plans. It allows for option of charging payments on MasterCard, Discover or American Express credit cards, with additional fees (convenience fees apply). All families will need to enroll with InTuition.[1]

CBA currently utilizes an Internet informational system known as NetClassroom, in which student data, such as class schedule, grades, homework, and absences are displayed online at all times, accessible from the official web site. Parents and students each receive separate usernames and passwords, so that parents may check the progress of their children at all times.
[edit] Graduation requirements
In order to graduate from Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, New York, students must accumulate a total of 28 academic credits, and they must perform a mandatory 32 hours of community service which can be started during the summer prior to senior year. New York Regents Exams also apply in order to receive a New York State Regents Diploma in addition to a CBA diploma.[2]
