Christbait

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Christbait was a rock band from Melbourne, Australia.

Christbait performed in the Melbourne during the early 90s. They played a heavy metal-edged rock that was not really fast enough to be grindcore, but far too metal to be stoner rock.

The music shows great dynamics, skilfully mixing up slow, quiet bits, with slow, heavy, loud bits, with fast, heavy bits, and so on. [ Genre = grind ]

Pounding, heavy death grind with a stoner groove, Christbait was the Australian pioneering band of a sound later adopted by acts such as Blood Duster and Pod People. Formed by a bunch of school friends in 1989, the band had soon shed a rhythm section before linking up with Dutton and Markovic for their initial demo. Dutton was replaced in the band shortly afterwards by Markovic's brother Lenny and work began on the awesome Yeast CD. Despite the popularity of the band, their incredible magnitude and strong supports to the likes of Helmet, Fear Factory, Killdozer and Morbid Angel, Christbait found acceptance from the industry virtually impossible and after the album was recorded the band split up, with the Markovics joining Budd and Westwood and Miszewski forming Dern Rutlidge. Westwood currently appears in the reformed line-up of Budd.
