Chris Warren, born January 24, 1967 in Silver Spring, Maryland is a former National Football League running back. At 6'2", 226 lb., he played for 11 seasons from 1990 to 2000, primarily for the Seattle Seahawks as #42, but also for the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.
Chris Warren attended Robinson Secondary School near Fairfax, Virginia, graduating in 1985. After an outstanding football career in high school, he enrolled at the University of Virginia, but transferred after two years and finished his college career at Ferrum College, a Division III school in rural southwestern Virginia. He was selected by the Seahawks in the 4th round of the 1990 NFL Draft, the 89th overall pick.
[edit] Pro football
Initially seeing action as a kick returner, Warren's breakout season came in 1992 when he rushed for 1017 yards. He followed that season with three more years with at least 1000 yards rushing, setting a career-high in 1994 with 1545 rushing yards. In 1995, #42 Warren set another career-best with 15 rushing touchdowns.
Warren was a 3-time selection for NFL Pro Bowl in three consecutive seasons (1993, 1994, & 1995). By the end of his stint in Seattle he held the Seahawks' career rushing record, logging 6706 total rushing yards for the franchise from 1990 to 1997. In 2005 Shaun Alexander eclipsed that record.
[edit] After football
Warren, who is now employed by UPS, has had some legal difficulties since his retirement from football.
In January 2005, Warren pleaded guilty to a single misdemeanor count of willfully and illegally failing to pay a past-due child-support obligation, as ordered by King County Superior Court in 1996.
On August 5, 2005, he was sentenced to five years probation for failure to pay child support on behalf of two children he fathered with a Washington woman. Warren owed more than $128,000 when the government filed charges in October of 2004. He was also ordered by U.S. Magistrate Judge John Weinberg to get current by February 1, 2006, or face the possibility of further sanctions. Another hearing is scheduled for February 3, 2006.
