[edit] Boise State

Petersen was named as the new head coach at Boise State on December 16, 2005. He succeeded Dan Hawkins as head coach after Hawkins left Boise State to become head coach at Colorado [1]. Petersen served as the offensive coordinator at Boise and was twice nominated for the Broyles Award, which is given to the nation's best assistant coach.

He grew up in Yuba City, CA.

[edit] 2007 Fiesta Bowl

In his first year as head coach for Boise State, Petersen lead the Broncos to an undefeated regular season and earned his team their first ever BCS berth, as well as being the 4th rookie head coach ever to lead a team to the BCS. Boise State was one of two teams that went undefeated in 2006, the other being #1 Ohio State. On January 3rd, 2006, the Broncos were invited to Glendale, AZ to play against Big 12 Champion Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl. Boise State was the second non-BCS school to earn an invitation to a BCS bowl game, the other being Utah in 2004.
